We are under 30 days out, so it is about time to talk about this years wrenching weekend. Wrenching weekend is Friday August 22nd and Saturday the 23rd. It will be at my abode in Lenexa, KS out by Shawnee Mission Park on the west side of KC.

This is a SMORR prep event, so you have to be signed up and paid for SMORR to bring your rig out.

For those that have not been out here, I have space inside to work on four rigs if needed, and we can always set up some canopies if it rain.

This is a TAC sponsored event, so we typically provide the meat, and look for someone that can bring a smoker out to cook it up. Anyone volunteer this? We typically start a fire in the firepit and cook up hotdogs or the like for dinner.

Although I am gluten free now (sucks) we can pick up a keg of suds for those that might enjoy.

Plenty of room to put up a tent, (we have about 4 acres) or we have lots of floorspace inside the house. If your in TAC, your part of the family.

Let's start a list of what needs to be done....

I believe there still is a 80' series front axle to rebuild. What else?

I'll be there for sure, and can bring a little weber smoker and wood (we call it r2d2...should give a good idea of its size and shape). I should be a pretty good resource for wrenching and knowledge on that 80 series rebuild for sure. Will also bring the cache of extras that I have from running down parts during my rebuild.

I'd be interested in doing the oil pump and timing cover seal job on mine that most 80 owners are familiar with. Might also throw on the ac compressor I got from cjmoon and retro fit kit (since my early 93 has the r12 system).

Mike, you will want to pick up a front main seal and the oil pump seal. Most people also replace all the screws that hold that cover on.

I don't (or shouldn't) need any work done on my rig but is it okay to come and provide moral support/helping hand?

Moral support - no.

Manning the parts washer - yes.

2004 4Runner: Unless I have a huge change of direction, I will bring the '04 and put on the belly plate if not already done. We will not have a rear locker, nor front winch for SMORR this year, and those are next steps, really. I could need to also install the HAM and CB radios, as well, if not done.

Chance we could get a wild hair and bring the '85, instead - - if so, may want to actually lower it - swap out the leaf springs I got from Matt in Grandview. I need to still swap out the transmission, put in a new clutch, etc - -but that will likely not be done in time for SMORR or be done just to sell the rig, prior. If anyone is interested in reviewing the '85 for purchase, let me know.

I hope to help out most of the time, as needed.

My 60 should be there for a front axle rebuild. I'll also swap the third because it currently has an Eaton gov lock limited slip and I'd rather have an open. Still debating about throwing an Aussie in there at the same time. Probably not a wise choice but still...

aussie up front is not a wise choice..
I can't make it will be headed to alabama but will insure kelly's requested item gets there.

I'll be there and have a couple of extra bedrooms across the street for those not interested in camping. Hot tub available too.

I want to pull off my plow hook and hopefully convert to receiver hitch.

Wife wants the '85 ready for SMORR, so I guess I am shifting all focus there.

I need to inspect the timing chain and guides; if OK, need to check valves. May want to swap to the lower leaf springs.

Need to install AC . . j/k . . . :)

If Colin or someone else who knows 1st Gen 4Runners (David, Mark) is going to be there, would love to have you guys take a look and offer up suggestions maybe after driving, etc.

I will be in for a radiator, oil pump seal, dizzy o ring, and crank shaft seal. All the stuff I didn't do before my trip to Colorado.

Sounds like Mike and I will be doing some of the same stuff.

Good deal. Will be good to have the same project going.

gulf shores house with a dock for fishing and plan on putting the arb on the dock so i don't go far. have fun guys.

FYI, after a multi year search, I have a 48" 12 gauge metal brake showing up at the house today, transportation provided by RobKC -- Thanks.

Now witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL metal shop!

Ok, not there yet, but bring on the metal projects.

I need to do something for an emergency brake on the 4Runner. The pull handle is still installed but there is no cable running to the rear, more than likely due to the 4 link. I'd like get an emergency brake of sort, be it at the rear axle, line locks or behind the T-case, before this wrenching weekend. I'm open for ideas.

I forgot to remind everyone to bring any broken, busted, abused parts for this years award at SMORR.

Finally cleared a travel conflict, so we're now signed up for SMORR. Looks like its time to get the trucks ready.

Not sure I can pull it off, but I'm going to try to get two front axle rebuilds done. If I can get completely through the first truck on Friday, I'll do the second truck on Saturday. If not, I'll use Saturday to do some of the other small needs on the first truck and lend a hand wherever I can.

Had one rebuild kit on-hand, second kit is ordered with a gift certificate I had for Cdan.
