The bed looks great,if I had that truck up here in WI i know I'd at LEAST get 1500 for it.

Dude go buy that thing $800 for a running truck with a cage. Who cares if the bed looks funky you can always replace it later when you get fed up with it enough. And like ken said keep an eye out for a junked efi truck for cheap.

Sounds like a good truck.

P.S. There has got to be some wheeling in PA ide bet my life on it.

Nope didn't buy it yet.
I looked through that flatbed thread over on Pirate4x4. I like some of those beds and think I would make one if I buy the truck.
I'm gonna go look at it again in about 1/2 hour. I wanna check the rear out and look at the frame better along the gas tank. I also wanna hear it run, they said it runs but the batt. was low and it would not turn over yesterday. I'm gonna see if they have a jump pack, but I will take cables just in case.
I'm kinda having second thoughts, I'm thinking I should look for a 85 4runner or xtra cab instead.

I'll take more pics and let you know how I make out.

Thanks again
Aaron

Hehehe now that you found out you have a sweet wheelin' place you want a SFA Huh? :D FWIW I'd buy it just for parts if you have the room..... Then when you get a 84-85 you will have a back up plan if you break something.

Well, this is a quandry, but only because I'd never buy a regular cab truck in this vintage. I'm a small guy (5'-6"), and my GF is even smaller, and it's cramped in there, even in my Xtra cab. Not enough places to put stuff that you need access to: road munchies, iPod, GPS, CB mic, drinks, cell phone, etc.

But I wouldn't hold out for a SFA truck. Older means more rust, more potential for problems, and frankly I think you're better off starting with an IFS truck that you do a SAS on, for several reasons. I've owned both, and I prefer my SAS'd '87.

Well.............I bought it.:D
I looked it over again, no rust except the fenders. I said I wanted to hear it run. His jump pack would not do it so I pulled out the cables and jumped it off my truck. It fired right up.:smokin: Locked the hubs, put it in 4hi, and its crawled right out of the snow bank it was parked in. I offered him $800,
he said he had a grand into it and that's what he needed out of it,
I said I'll give you $900 cash.
He thought about it a couple min. and said ok.
I'm gonna pick it up Thurs. night.
Here are some more picks.

I would do this and cosider it as regular mainenince.

Get youself a garden sprayer fill with some type of oil spray the under with it.

seperatly, usually as soon as I buy something I get a can of WD40

Go to town on all rubber and mechanical parts

Door locks/latches/hinges

weather striping dust seals boots etc. you get the point.

Nicely done, congrats. That last pic of the frame is very reassuring, looks better than I expected.

Now take that stupid poser NWOR rear axle truss thing off and toss it in the trash. Probably those torque arm thingys too, I doubt they do any good. Cut the tips of the U-bolts off while you're under there, a cutoff wheel in a grinder works really well for this. I hope the spare tire winch still works, if so lower it down and grease/lube the hell out of it.

Start buying parts. Welcome to the madness. It's a sickness that you won't want to be cured.

ya and that front diff drop bracket should be happy in the trash next to that rear axle truss.

get her going and post lotsa photos!!!

I bring it home thursday night. The first thing will be to fix the rear and then I gotta get tires. The 35's that are on it are worn pretty good and they are dry rotted pretty bad. Once thats done then its time to rip and tare.
Someone earlier said to lock 1 hub and turn the DS, I did that and it would not spin.
You guys like EFI better than a Carb?? Why?
Anyone close by have any tires 4-sale....cheap?

I plan to fix the rear and get some new/better tires and run it. I want to "surf" around on here and get more info before I make any plans. I've been reading the flatbed thread on pirate4x4, I like what I'm seeing and it looks very easy to make one. I'm putting that on my list of things to do.
