One of the clamps was rusted out too, so grinded that off and cut out a good one from the BJ74 air box. I ended up just placing the patches on top and welding it up because I figure I don't need it to look factory, as long as it is functional I am good with it, plus it's in a tough spot to see anyway, and if someone points it out to me while my hood is up, I will tell them to get bent:hillbilly:

Got the pass side fender bolted up, still being a bitch, will need to take it off a second time and grind and bend some more. Finally after 6 years or so it's starting to look more like a truck and less like a perminent project! :hillbilly:

Please don't put carpet in it! :grinpimp: Looking pretty sweet so far.

Don't worry Rob, the stock (although heavily cleaned from mine dust) vinal mat will be going back in. There will be a few things that don't look quite new on this thing, but it will look pretty much newish with a few mine / visual defects when done. I am half leaning towards not even finishing all the body work for a bit after driving it for a year or more, then spending the money to have a good paint job, as I just want to start driving it already. Gave up the company truck this week, and the wagon is struggling in this cold weather up here, think this 1HZ with the new espar diesel heater I just bought for it would be the cats ass in this cold stuff.:grinpimp:

Looking good!

I have fenders and doors lined up for my 75 but I am waiting for one other shipping quote.
Getting really excited to start cleaning mine up.

I think you'll be more happy to just finish it in one go. Well they are cruisers, I know they never really get done:)

enjoyable read ...
congrats on saving another abused mine rig.

Thanks guys. And Wayne, although I don't always agree with some of the extras you put on all your builds, I do appreciate them, as even when I do searches on here to remember how to build this thing back up (as my memory sucks and I didn't take enough pictures in the begginning when I started tearing things down), your 70 series build threads generally pop up and are a good step by step helping me put this thing back together.
Cheers,

you might want to source a H151, not as nice shifting as the H55 but a lot stronger than the R series and will fit your floor better than the H55 ...
just a suggestion.

What do they come in? I can start searching, but not in a big rush until this R tranny blows up.

in a stock truck with stockish wheels the R series would probably stand up pretty well.
i run 36" tractors when wheeling, i had a R series behind the turbo'd PZ when i hammered pretty hard in a mud hole. it never broke but it started to make noise after that hole. to be fair it stood up to about 4 years of DD/off road/some abuse before this.
with 37s and a turbo'd HZ, i suspect the life expectency to be quite a bit less if you hammer down. not sure how you wheel and how the mine treated the tranny before you got it.
the H150/151 is used in the 80 series, others will know more about this tranny than i do.

sorry for the ramble.

Well I plan on being pretty easy on this truck, it will mostly be a highway/ back road driver, the odd wheeling rig hauler though. Wheeling will be pretty tame, maybe the odd hunting trip on some muddy roads. Although right now we are getting crazy amounts of snow, and they just can't keep up clearing, feels like I am wheeling every day ;) If the tranny gives me trouble I will look into getting the H151 instead of rebuilding the R tranny. Thanks for the info.

Anyway got a day in of some work on this thing, finally got the intercooler lined up properly, only two extra cuts from the kit I got, and bought one coolant hose90 (black hose into intercooler on pass side) to replace one bend I couldn't get to work. after installing the airconditioner lines into the compressor, found that the fit is too tight, and will probably need one more cut as I can't seem to push the one intercooler tube over the turbo, so figure a cut and add short hose junction will make it perfect. Inter cooler tucks in perfectly infront of the aircondition rad and just behind the grill, looks pretty slick and wont really be able to tell it's there. I really don't like the look of hood scoops so happy this will make the truck look more (er) stockish :hillbilly:

Also question for anyone in the know about aircondition lines, two of the lines had little holes in the ends (last pic), at first I thought the line had rusted a hole, but since two have them have it and the rust wasn't too bad, it might have been like that?

Actually went back into the shop in the evening and tried playing around with the intercooler from turbo tube and found the silicone hose connecting turbo to tube was stuffed on the tube quite a bit, so had room to pull it off and now the thing fits like a glove (and not an OJ glove either!).

That intake tubing is sexy. I would guess that the little hole must help when they are crimping the fitting.

Does it fit as well as a kitty shirt? Speaking of that... Can I put that in the Gem of the Day Thread? That thread needs a serious bump.

Hey denny i will pull out my ac tomorrow ( its in a box since i put the now rooted 1hd-t in)
i will check for holes and let ya know

Well haven't done anything in a while, so figured I would spend a day in the shop on the 1st. Didn't quite happen as I had to shovel out my tarp shed as snow was piled against the fence and ready to tear it down and my 42 would be exposed to the elements. I did get the fender worked out, bolted on the other few body peices that I had previously cleaned up and put in my old front grill to see if it would interfere with the intercooler. looks ok, but might have to do a bit of clearencing once I put in the clamps on the hoses. Will try to take a week sometime in January to get a bit more done on it.

That new grill and corner light style is ugly.
I'll trade you for a pre 99 set :)

Ha ha, funny thing is I bought a brand new set from ENS 7 years ago when I bought the truck, just now gettting close to installing ;) And no, not looking for the trade, although I do like the old school better cause it's not plastic, this set up will hide a bit of the crooked upper fender (which I think I will try to straiten a bit with a 2X4 and a hammer or possibly a bit more ovaling of the holes in the aftermarket fenders which are causing me a few little crooked and gap issues)

got a little done this weekend, finished mounting the fuel filters, used an aftermarket Racor water seperator with primer pump, then the final filter will be a 3B filter, because I like the nipple on the end for easy priming, plus filters will be cheap. just have to finish running fuel lines, gonna re-route the intake hard line on the frame a little higher up so it doesn't get too close to the exhaust I will run between the frame and transfer. Also totally re-routing the return line to the drivers side to get it right out of that side as it seems pointless for it to travel to the passenger side from the engine, then back to the drivers side where it hooks up at the tank.
