Up to you guys on whether or not you find this useful but I think I agree with El Perro and IBCRUSN after some thought. These are a little easier to google for meanings but then a person who doesn't know them may not know how to search for them either :)

I'm sure there are a number of folks out there who know a ton about the tech but not forum lingo. Maybe something I can contribute then..

Common Forum Lingo:

AFAIK - As far as I know
BTW - By the way
FWIW - For What it's worth
FYI - For your information
IIRC- If I recall correctly
IMHO - In my humble opinion
IMO - In my opinion
LMAO - Laughing my @$$ off
LOL - Laugh out loud
OTOH - On the other hand
ROTFLOL - Rolling on the floor laughing out loud
RTFM - Read the F-ing Manual
YMMV - Your methods/mileage may vary

CDL - Center Differentuial Lock - Switch installed to allow the Center Differential to be locked when the transfer case is in High.

Let me know if your opinion is if the above is too much, just right or not enough

Pick an acronym or something needing a good definition and post it up

Technically, this is incorrect. That is a picture of, and explanation of, a CDL switch. The CDL is in the transfer case. I hate to nitpick, but this could cause confusion in people that are not well-versed in the jargon, as this FAQ seems to be geared towards.

Also, 'differential' is misspelled. As long as I'm being anal, right?

Thanks for pointing that out. Fixed now

LSPV = load sensing proportioning valve
FF = full-float(-ing) or (-er) axle
SF = semi-float(-ing) or (-er) axle
e-locker = oem electronically activated differential locking mechanism
a-pillar (& b-, c-, d-) = roof pillar supports; progressing from windshield to tailgate

I added SOA and SUA and caveated them that they only apply to leaf spring suspensions and the 80's were coil.

Not on an 80.

It's really tough to put coils under the axle

Yup. Got the 60s on my mind. I keep forgetting that I'm looking at the 80s list!! A buddy just bought one and now I find myself here more often than on the 60s list. Too many forums too little time....

IMHO this is a great resource for anyone on the board, not just the 80 folks. Not sure if Romer has moved it to the general area yet (I haven't really looked).

Cheers

Oh and kudos to Romer for another great thread.

Ken -

I cannot believe there would be anyone out there that has never heard of "CB", but there is the entire subtech of communications to consider, a few of which are...

CB - Citizens Band.

Citizens Band radio service which most often refers to the 40 channel, 11 meter (27mHz) frequency band, but also includes other small sections of bandwith in other parts of the spectrum.

VHF - Very High Frequency

That part of the radio spectrum above 50 mHz; most often discussed in the context of the 2 meter ham radio band (144 mHz) that many of us use.

mHz - MegaHertz (million cycles), a designator to describe/locate a radio frequency.

Etc, etc...

PS: GPS, GMRS, FRS, MURS and so on... if you think it would be helpful.

Cheers, R -

I think CDan needs to be edited slightly to indicate that its "cruiserdan".

For a newb like me I wasn't sure if they were the same people.

Plus I've seen many a newb ask a question and get an answer like "Just ask CDan for XXX." They are probably not going to realize to look for "cruiserdan".

Just my $.02
