Thanks! Yes and the money is starting to flow... Exciting though and am looking forward to making it how I want (I really like the stock look).

You really have such a nice conserved FJ40 to start working with. It's a pleasure following these pics with the progress

Nice, she pretty! Your truck is 1,068 trucks newer than my October 1974. My tub was too rusty so I went with an Aqualu tub, looks like the metal on yours is better. Have fun with it!

Yup I plan on including photos of the work I do here. I'll have lots of questions I know this forum will help me with. Great resource!

Very cool! Funny how fast they make cars now. My wife worked at a Toyota plant and they made 1,000 cars a day.

So imagine that - after re-torquing the oil pan bolts, the leak has slowed considerably. Some bolts seriously seemed hand tight (I know 4-9 ft/lbs. isn't much, but some were definitely looser than they should be). The leak is still there, but that definitely appears to be one of the culprits. I just placed an order for new wheels/hubcaps and the windshield gasket. While I was at it, I figured I'd order a new oil pan gasket! So next oil change I think I will tackle that. The PO just recently did an oil change and now that the leak is really slow I figure I will save the money (8.5 quarts?!!!) and wait. I will just make sure to keep an eye on my oil level.

Hey so as noted in this thread, I am going to switch to OEM wheels and tall skinnies. I have a full set of white wagon wheels with BFG ATs 32x12.5x15. Any thoughts on how much I should sell these for? As you can see there is still some tread left on these, not sure exactly how much percentage wise. The spare tire has the most. A little rust - a fresh coat of paint would be nice, but not necessary. Initially I was thinking of keeping these in addition to the new ones, but after seeing how much I'll be spending on those it will be nice to get a little bit back. Plus, not sure if I really can store a set of 5 wheels/tires.

Appreciate your feedback!

Rims only would be interesting, and price :meh:, but I think in CA you are far away related to transport cost to port Miami

Okay so took my wife out today in the Cruiser for Mother's Day. All went well we had a great time. On the way home she decided she wanted to drive it. I said sure, so we stopped at a parking lot close to home. While I was running through the gears and eccentricities of the vehicle, it sounded like it was going to die. Idle dropped off and was a bit choppy. Seemed like more smoke was coming out of the tailpipe than I've seen, and the oil pressure gauge had dropped down pretty low. After stepping on the gas a bit, the oil pressure increased and I decided I better just get this home (we were 2 minutes away).

After popping the hood, I didn't notice anything right away. Later though I noticed a couple of hoses that appeared disconnected - note I took the photos after I trimmed the broken hose part off (about 3/8"). Could this be the cause of my problem? I'm fairly certain that I labeled them correctly in my image as that is the only connections where both would reach.

Also, after letting it cool down for a few hours I looked in the radiator (because I had just put additional radiator fluid/water in there in the morning) and noticed my radiator fluid had turned a brownish/orange color. Not sure if that is a sign of something not good. I was down about 24 ounces and I've only driven it 3-4 times since I got it (when I purchased it the radiator fluid looked good and was about full). There are no radiator puddles/drips on the floor.

Any advice? Seems like I should connect those hoses back on there. I also plan on fixing my temperature gauge as it doesn't work. I need to make sure things aren't running too hot.

Thanks in advance!

Okay so I ended up getting the hoses reconnected. It was too late to fire it up to see if it helped. But it appears it was the hose to the EGR valve or EGR port. Hopefully that solves the problem with the idle dropping and the car sounding choppy and about dying.

I took off the flares to see what it looked like underneath. PO did a nice job cutting. Almost good enough except for those bumps. I also got the replacement inserts to make the fender stock-ish again. Looks pretty good! I really do like the flare-less look so much better. Need the lift kit though to fit the 33's and unfortunately it is backordered until mid-June.

Installed a radiator overflow tank too - need to slide over my custom mount (leftover 1/4" UHMW) to the left since I have a little kink in the overflow hose.

Figured too these things look great with a winch on front so I tracked down an older Warn (Belleview 5687). And the bumper it was mounted on from a '74. The bumper is much straighter than mine just needs a new paint job. Will test this winch out to see if it still works...

I like the flare patches, they look like they will work great. I like the stock look too.

I think I will need to trim the patches because there isn't much original material available to weld to - which is fine, I can keep more of the stock metal.

Yay brown Santa arrived while I was out of town!

Turns out my buddy has a paint booth so he is going to help me spray my wheels grey.

Got the windshield gasket too now I can get a new front windshield to replace the broken one!

And picked up a front disc brake kit. Hopefully that goes better than the recent thread I read about this particular kit.
