fit my light 😳

At issue for me right now is the light. I'm no fan of the OEM light and I'm sure none of you are either. I am inclined to delete the hole and utilize the connector for a different LED light. The problem is what to use for a light. Most of the stuff I would normally use on my own stuff is damn spendy. But stupid Chinese sticky tape LEDs drive me nuts. Need something in between. Thoughts?

I guess I may have been mistaken, looking at earlier posts it sounded like you decided to go away from the OEM light because of the Big Hole. While I can squeeze my OEM light into the hole, the fact that it's not round it doesn't fit well. I agree with you of not being a fan of the OEM light and I was thinking that the hole was designed for a different light to replace it but as I dig deeper it looks like the hole is intended for a Blue Sea USB charger with the flat sides?

So as for lights, we are on our own if we wanted to drill and place a light in there. I'm clear now was just a little confused.

Done and very happy. My old one was a wreck. Powder coated, foam bottom and up the sides to keep stuff from rattling and LED lights to light up top and bottom. They do not come on automatically which is fine for me...may change it later. My old light never worked.

So honestly I'm kind of glad my OEM light didn't work with the Wits' End glove box, because it led me to find a much better solution than what was there before. LED light strips. They mount with some super sticky 3M butyl mounting tape (about 2mm thick so hopefully enough to adhere to the texture of the powder coating on my glove box, and I led the wires out and down and soldered them to the OEM connector that the original light used. Little wire wrap and she looks good. I only stuck the wire in place temporarily so I can be sure the strips will stay in place through the summer heat and winter cold, but if they stay put I'll run a thin bead of black polyurethane caulk over the wires to help conceal them a bit better. These are really bright and if you don't have the shelf, only one strip would be absolutely perfect for the glove box.

Still waking up, I thought you meant the bulb socket inside the glove box insert . My '89 doesn't have the inspection lamp socket.

@Spook50 can you post up a link to the strips you ordered?
I'm out of town right now but when I get back I'll double check. I think I had ordered them from SuperBrightLEDs but can't remember for sure.

@Reedo311 Here are the LED strips I ordered for the glove box. I cut one "section" off the ones I installed and it made for an ideal length. Turned out I got them from Amazon and not SuperBrightLEDs....

Hell no! This thing far exceeded my expectations, and I had high expectations to begin with. I opened the box and said "wow". Can't remember the last time that happened :D

Got my dash back on and this insert installed this weekend as well. Only thing I can complain about it how tight a fit it was to get the shelf in. Not the shelf or inserts fault, but all because of the mitts that I call my hands. Very nearly woke my 3 year old up from a nap to help me out. Very cool piece of gear and a million time better than the cardboard OEM POS. My glove box light fit 2 of the 3 mounting tabs, but is still perfectly secure. Light doesn't actually work, even with a new bulb, so add one more thing to the list of electrical crap to run down.
