Hi all. I'm in Fox Point. 07 GX470 stock and just bought '78 FJ40, also stock. Would definitely be up for coffee. I'm trying to sponge up info as there are so many directions to go, decisions, work, $$. I could do coffee, trips, trails...

Welcome Neils, I am glad you are here representing WI. I am 45 min south, down in Racine. Many pics of the 40 will be required, or it doesn't exist 😉. Did you find it here in WI??? My 40 radar did not alert me of an available one 😁

I bought it in NW Iowa and it's still there. Here's my take: Good 2F 4speed drive train, loose suspension, lousy top and doors. It will keep me busy with a decent balance of promise and challenge. I really want it to roll around nicely to start. So I think the suspension is first. I think the steering is tight but the springs aren't tightly connected, was thinking I could suspend the frame and identity what's going on. I read a lot of opinions about solutions but I really need to find the problems first, else I won't fully bond with the child! Once the foundation is in place, then the more elaborate stuff, I guess. I've been stuck in mud plenty in life, but what the heck! It's a journey.

Welcome, welcome @Junebuggy and @Roscoedog great to see more and more Land Cruiser owners connecting here.
@LXRestore where you at? Wanna say a quick hi?
@js47 care to make a quick post?

Thanks for the tag Classy, I didn't know about this thread.

My name is Jake, originally from NYC but moved out here about two years ago. I drive a 100 and live on the west side of Madison about 1000 feet from @ClassyJalopy! I do all my own work on my car so feel free to reach out if you need a hand with anything.

No offense to the natives but I do try to get out of Wisconsin as much as I can –– will post a few photos from this year below.

Hi all.
New here. My name is Mike. I Iive near Mazomanie, 20 miles west of Madison.

I own a 1979 FJ40.

My special skills are crashing airplanes and drinking beer. Usually in that order.

+1 for getting out of Wisconsin as much as possible :)

I lived in Utah for 3 years prior to my migration to Madison and I REALLY miss it... especially now that I own my 100...

I used to believe absence makes the heart grow fonder... WI born and raised, but really like it out west. The pull to move west is pretty strong but my 60 is in pieces here.

Okay, I'm reporting from Iowa, having spent the week with the '78 FJ40. Plan to improve drivability first. Suspension is worn out at bushings and left rear spring has lost its youthful shape. I will enlist local shop while I'm traveling back to WI.

So far, I've bent doors a little and installed shims, disassembled heater valve and gauge cluster. Odometer 1/10 wheel is broken. I ordered an assembly off of eBay to address. In terms of hot foot, I now realize most of the heat around my right leg is coming from the drive train, not the heater!

The engine seems strong and complete, but it will have it's turn. I think I'll leave top on over winter and have doors and seals addressed, see what it's like with undergirding and enclosure upgraded.

I'm in Cherokee Iowa and within a day, the local off road motoring gang had spread word around and welcomed me, folks wave, etc. Motivating. I sometimes beep/squeak the horn.

Some folks around here recognize the new bezel color as International Harvestor #935 white, which I found at the farm supply store. Before and after pictures attached.

Hey guys.

First name is Matt.

Moved to West Side of Madison(Regent neighborhood) from Southeast Michigan in June.

I have a Black 1998 LC that I bought 3 years ago for camping and wheeling. Splits time as my daily with my 2003 f150 that was my dads. My wife drives a White 2013 LX570 that I picked up for her in November when she moved here for work.

No super special habits except being able to make a cooler full of beer look empty by the end of the day. I do most of my own wrenching. At least the stuff that I think I can do. Just finished replacing the brake booster on my 100 so at least that's out of the way. Seen a couple cool trucks around town. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys.

I'll attach a pic of my poor lc getting rescued by the lx after the brake booster failed on a camping trip in August. Up and operational now tho.

Welcome Matthew! There are a number of mud members around madison area. We have yet to get together (to my knowledge) due to covid and time. I think we are due.

I had a 98 LC also. Really regret selling. I am back to a 80 series (3fe). Learning a lot about the 3fe.

I do all my own wrenching as well. Reach out if you need anything?

Welcome to the WI group, glad you are here. I am in Madison on a pretty regular basis while always making time to hit Sugar River Pizza in Verona for their General Tso's pizza. Best pizza in WI, IMHO of course. 🍕 💯

Hi Drake and all!

The 40 has new springs on it, but it's still waiting on a drag link end I just ordered to then get aligned and drive off. It's still in the same shop in NW Iowa while I'm home in Milwaukee. Can't wait to get back to it and check out impact of the suspension work. Got some other odds and ends to fit. I need to get back into the odometer and rework that, etc. And I need to get it to shift into L4 which hasn't been sorted yet. Advice on tactics or expertise appreciated! I'm guessing the previous owner hadn't moved the lever for quite some time so things are pretty stiff and reluctant inside. Unless there's some trick with clutching and and rolling it around or something? I'm not planning a lot of crawling around, but can't live with the fact it doesn't engage.

Not sure if I'll winter it there or here. I'm city boy here and farm boy there, each has advantages. If there's some kind of shin-digging that goes on around here, I'd go get it. Seems there's more action in Madison than Milwaukee, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough!

Oh, I went on a little bicycle camping excursion with some friends of friends and one had an earlier 40, which was way cool.

I'd be interested in any kind of hang-out that might come up.

Welcome Matt. You got a good looking stable! I live near west towne mall and try to wrench on my truck as much as I can.

We should do a quick fall colors trip in the deiftless area. It's really pretty this time of the year!
