Ya well... then you have to live in Florida.

My brother just moved near Tampa. No thank you.

Nokians studded

I have had various models currently running the hakkapellitA SUV 9s on both my 200 series

I can go anywhere anytime and never have an issue. Deep snow, ice etc

How is the noise? I read Hakka 9 is fair bit noiser than Hakka 8. I run Hakka 8 on our 2012 Tacoma, and it's not too obnoxious. Now I am debating what to get for the 200 series I bought last month.

Who cares about noise when it comes to safety. These tires are for a specific application and they excel at it.

Easy there. Everything is a compromise and there isn't a perfect tire for all conditions. Most would agree studded tires are overkill for Massachusetts and vicinity, and while I run them on the Tacoma - and like them - it's not a slam dunk choice. Noise is a consideration, too.

From what I read Hakka 9 has more studs than Hakka 8. I am also considering studded LT2.

Yeah I hear you down here with all the sunshine today it was in the low 70s I really do miss 3 feet of snow and 30 below zero temperatures you are one lucky dud!!!

other tires may be much quieter then Hakka 9s when driving. But much louder when you hit a guardrail, snowbank, vehicle,...

I have Hakka 7 on my LX, and Hakka 4 and 5 on our MB and Subaru. Have a set of Hakka 9 waiting for my wife’s new car to get here next week. The 7 are quieter then the 4 and 5 I’ll let you know about the 9 when I get them on.

Pulling out of my driveway today. Glad I have our winter tires on. Tire shops are going to be crazy now.

No snow here yet. But I did get the snowblower fueled up and tested. I spent a few hours today blowing leaves.

Still better than Florida (I call it "God's waiting room").

I get home from work tomorrow and will put my wife’s on then. Hope we didn’t gamble too long!

Yup the Hakka 9s are noisier than the stock tires or others.

I ran LT2s on my 100 and don’t think the Hakka 9s are any louder. Granted I have only run 9s on my 200s. I did run 9s on my lx470
Last year as well as the 200 but didn’t think the noise was bad in either truck. Yes there is more sound but not worse than previous studded tires

I was at sugarloaf mountain in Maine this weekend and there was a foot of snow

I don’t have the studded tires on the newer 200 as I need to get tpms sensors for my second set of rims. Guess what the truck sucked in the snow and I am getting the Hakka 9s on this week. I drove to that mountain innumerable times the last 3 years in the worst weather imaginable and never had any issues at all but I always had studded nokians in for the drive.

The 9s have more studs and there are two different shapes to the studs. I don’t know that it really matters but I have yet to lose traction while having the 9s on.

I don’t find the noise problematic but my wife tells me I am deaf any way

Again everyone is different but I have nothing but great experiences with my Nokians and currently I run 2 sets of 9s and a set of lt2s

I can tolerate a bit more road noise but also do a ton of driving in the worst weather

Great info. Any comparisons between LT2 and 9, other than noise?

I really wanted the LT2, but the studded version was in very limited stock. I could not find 4 in the size I wanted. I spoke to nokian via email and they weren't sure if more of the studded version would become available in the future. That said, the info they gave me is the LT2 is going to be better in deep snow and for towing. It's a 10 ply tire so expect a harsher ride.

I went with the 9 because the dealer also convinced me a narrower and smaller tire will give better traction and stability in most conditions. I deal with a fair amount of deep snow also so we will see how it goes.

hard to compare the 9s to LT2s as the 9s are on the 200s and the LT2s are on the 80

The trucks ride quite differently to begin with. I think the difference is the same as you would experience going from an lt tire to p rated

Stiffer sidewall and ride etc

I had no issues with deep snow with the 9s

EDIT
Pictures are old. We only had about a foot at the mountain this weekend.

So first real snow of the season. The meeting of the non winter tire club is in front of my house. 3 cars in the ditch (one is a 100), my trash can is toast (trash day), and mailbox is gone. In just in the 20 min I was using the man plow I saw 7 cars spinning down the road including the f250 that took out my mailbox and trash can.

Wow crazy. What apart of Alaska do you live? Can you share a pic of said winter club?

Anchorage. This is what it looks like outside my office currently. I’ll keep it in mind for the car carnage and take a picture next time. I’m on a hill on a main road so it happens frequently with the first storm or 2.

Great thing about Anchorage is that you can easily get to Alaska from there :-p

How is the highway to Girdwood? Closed due to avalanches?

Yep best part of anchorage is it’s only 15 min from Alaska. No avalanches yet on th Seward yet but ithere will be once we get more snow. This storm came in from the north so Hatchers pass got a few feet. Only about 3” so far at my house. The big problem with many of these early season storms, it went from rain to snow it was 45 degrees on the front end of the storm and 20 this AM. So we had that nice dust of snow on ice.

Hakka 9s on 20” Tundra wheels are on! Made it just in time for the season - my wife and I pushed it a little too far this year.

She slid going 5mph around a circle into a curb on the stock Michelin all seasons. Not hard enough to damage or mar the stock Lexus wheel.

275/55/20 Hakka 9’s are about 3/4” taller than stock.
