A 12K winch is very heavy, big, and overkill. It will really tax the front springs, even if it is a SAS. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the recommended rating is 1.5-2X the vehicle weight. I have an HS9500, and I've wound that thing up a couple of times where I was afraid I was gonna rip the bumper bolts out of the frame.

winch selection will depends in the size weight of your vehicle right now and your intended use ..

an 8K will easily will put you out of a small ditch where you are stuck just coz you have no traction, but may not be enough if you are stuck to your axles in a dry like concrete mud ..

just my .0002 cents ..

1.5 x GVWR of vehicle is the minimum recommended size. 2x is more common.
