Sorry to hear you can't make it, Ed. Unfortunately I know how it can be sometimes. I'll be sure to check back with you come summer.I can't see the logistics between multiple relative issues, GF, boss, etc. working out for me. If it was a long weekend closer to home, maybe.
I wish...
For a week-long trip I bring 15 gallons of water, but actually only use half of that. The rest is for emergency.So noob question for this area as I have only stayed in NorCal for short trips. How much water, and extra fuel should I bring?
Nice, nothing crazy then. Thank you!For a week-long trip I bring 15 gallons of water, but actually only use half of that. The rest is for emergency.
A general rule for desert camping is one gallon per person, per day minimum. 2 gallons per person would cover bathing and washing dishes, etc., but there will be natural springs along the way where water can be used for washing. Plus, we'll cross civilization every few days.
I also carry 5 gallons of extra fuel, but have never needed it. Some lost tourist relying on GPS might need it though,
HTH

Yeah, I'm usually good for a whole week.A whole week? I'll try to join in for some or all of this...

"Mangle" pass, I see what you did there, lol.I’m still a go. Not for the whole week tho. I’ll stick around as long as I can. I’m planning on bringing my stock 87 4Runner. Hopefully Mangle Pass is not too bad. Might need a spot or two.
I can see the line"Mangle" pass, I see what you did there, lol.
That's awesome you're bringing the 4Runner, I was kinda hoping you might!
I've never seen Mengel in too bad of shape. Sometimes though, after it storms, Goler wash can look like this:

I want to go so bad.Ok, it looks like the official plan is for the 1st week of April (4/2 thru 4/10).
So who all is on board?
@SIZZLE for sure.
@TYM4FUN for sure.
@vipergrhd for sure.
@Fast Eddy ? Nope.
@Broski for sure.
And what about @workingdog ? This is your thread, I don't want to hijack.
I don't have any particular route planned yet, but I'm thinking we could start with Goler wash -> Mengel pass -> Butte valley since that's always a good way to kick off a DV trip, and a good initiation for first timers.
Since the first day will be a travel day for us up north, that would make the ghost town of Ballarat our launch point on Sunday 4/3, and also the last chance for any stragglers to meet up.
I'm pretty flexible, so let me know what works for you. Looking forward to this!
Make it happen!I want to go so bad.
So you're going from 4/2 until sometime during the week? Hmm.I’m still a go. Not for the whole week tho. I’ll stick around as long as I can. I’m planning on bringing my stock 87 4Runner. Hopefully Mangle Pass is not too bad. Might need a spot or two.

I'm pretty sure we'll be back on pavement by 4/5. That would give the short-timers a chance to peel off and turn towards home.Might have to be 4/2-4/6 or something like that. I’m on fence but been following this post since it started.
Yeah, probably head down from Bay Area on 4/2 and head back on 4/6.So you're going from 4/2 until sometime during the week? Hmm.
The logistics for doing part of the trip from the beginning are a lot easier than trying to find the group in the middle. Hmm.
What do you think of doing some of the driving the night of 4/1? I'd hate to spend 6-8 hours of daylight on the freeway.Yeah, probably head down from Bay Area on 4/2 and head back on 4/6.
