We’ve got some pretty severe wind here at the moment. It shattered one of the skylights in my shop this morning. Luckily I have a piece of plexiglass on hand to fix it. But before I could get to it, the wind slammed my front gate open, then slammed it shut again in a way that derailed the gate!

As fate would have it, the 45 was in the driveway, facing forwards. So I grabbed my trusty old climbing rope, the same one @calico_kid gave me in 2007 when I broke the shock mounts on the 45 in Canyonlands, and clevis the gate to the @hawkdriver bumper on the 45.

When I had the gate almost vertical, a friend helped hold the gate with a second safety rope while I levered the gate back on to the track…and locked it!

Stay safe down there Mark. Hearing about the wind speeds you are experiencing is crazy!

Thanks Ken. It’s really bad. 71mph recorded. I had to look that up. Higher than gale force. Higher than anything I’ve experienced in Death Valley.

There’s a lumber yard at the top of my street, and a fire broke out there in the morning yesterday. The city threw everything they had at it, knowing how quickly that could turn really bad. City services are overwhelmed dealing with downed trees. Full triage mode, cutting the tops that are blocking the street, dragging everything to the curb, and moving on. I don’t blame them, but it’s going to get interesting later on, with more pedestrians walking into the street to get around the debris. I went into the downtown district for a minute half an hour ago and already witnessed that.

Also, The top of an emergency air raid siren was laying in the street near the courthouse. Not a good sign.

I lost a second gate on the north side of the property after dark. A small wooden one my tenant had constructed 30 years ago to keep pedestrians from taking shortcuts across my lot to the machine shop that used to be in the back next door. At daylight, I will inspect whether it can be salvaged.

My neighbors shadesail, which was helping protect the BMWs and Bentleys at his shop for repairs, spent the afternoon abrading the roofs of those cars before it cut loose. Half of it is now wrapped around my camping trailer, hanging over the 8 foot fence.

As the evening progressed, I started worrying if one of the windows on the office would fail. Started thinking about storm shutters. I know @fjl40 has them on his place in Louisiana, but I never thought it was something that I’d have to consider in SoCal.

It was too dangerous to travel, so I stayed here overnight. Lost power around 7. Took a dose of ***itol, looked at a few funny memes on MUD, and passed out. Being hard of hearing is occasionally a blessing. 👂

Just crazy. Things we thought we would never see happen in our lifetime are happening. Not good.
Everyone really be careful down there!

If you want the ‘long’ view, you should read up on the altithermal. Increased desertification. San Diego is predicted to look like Baja in 120 years. Long range shift in the magnetic field and equatorial bands that has nothing to do with people. But if you want to donate to the cause, Greta and her friends will be happy to take your money.😛

Nice you got both trucks in the photo. Are you the coconut palm climber? How many palms were harvested for your load there?
That’s a lot of work.
Yeah I climb the trees but these are all coconut sprouts. The buyer strips the husk and then at this stage what would be the drinking water is now an almost foam ball of coconut sprout that is eaten. We use them to make milkshakes mixed with a little ice cream or condensed milk and vanilla. My girls just eat it as is, Then the outer meat is used to make coconut oil. And also the stock is edible at this stage which is heart of palm.

I’ll have a load of drinking coconuts in the next few days for him and another couple hundred sprouts.

Wowzza! Assuming those were uninvited, or is that a giant honey bee hive structure? 😄

Uninvited little bastards. But all in a new hive box and relocated 38 miles to my m house. It seems to be a yearly thing anymore always in a different wall cavity but working our way around. This is number 5 that’s been pulled out of the walls.
Lucky bees now free place to live, ocean view just have to b make honey and I’ll keep em around.
