Those are my dad's doors above. It shouldn't be a problem to make a set of tube ones. i'll just have to get someone with a straighter body than his to come over so I can measure. Ryan

Ryan, I'd be happy to bring the 40 by sometime if you want to use it for measurements.

I'm interested also.

I want to clarify my response. I'm interested in tube doors like wantatlc mentioned.

this is simular to what i will be making, without the vertical plate at the hinges.

how do you like your TITAN?

Sounds great. Post some pics when you're done.

The Titan is great. Lots of power. Drives great (e.g. not heavy and sluggish). It has a lot of unique features too like:
Sliding rail system in the bed.
Storage compartment in the driver side rear quarter panel.
Power sliding rear window (it slides down, not across).
Dual overhead cam engine mated to a 5-speed auto.
Locking rear diff.
Tailgate assist (e.g. you can release it and let it go. It floats
down and can be easily raised with one hand).
Active headrests (e.g. they move forward in a collision to minimize
whiplash.
etc.

It's really a nice truck.

HIJACK!!!!

nissan did a great job on the titan, we've been trying to get one for a delivery truck.......thats not gonna happen :frown:

another hijack.....they have to up the ante in order for them to sell them. Dodge made a comeback using the same logic. At the end everyone wins.:) Sorry for the hijack.

any photos of your work? got a pair to show?

the question i asked in merch, store front:

what/how do you want to see these mounted to your 40?

1)slide pin into hinge like a soft door or 1/2 door

2)using bolts to mount up like a hard door using the full hinge

#2 is my choice
less likely to have someone steal them and stronger if you flop your rig

thanx

just in case you missed it

1) for sure

but why can you not do a combo? That is, on the 1) option - like soft doors - the doors just drop down into the half hinges as the pins are part of the door. Instead, why not make tubing that fits inbetween the half hinge (so remove the pin from the door and just make it tubing) with a bolt that drops down and is bolted on (so a bolt goes down the half hinge, through the tubing, and into the bottom half hinge)?

seems best of both worlds, but no need to go buy expensive hinges (if you do not have them and only have half hinges) AND it seems like less work on the actual door as there does not have to be a plate area for the full hinge to bolt on.

if this does not make sense, let me know and I will photochop an image to explain.

It was problems with my prior half doors that were fabric covered that initiated the design for the diamond plate doors. I just got too tired of using duct tape to repair rips in the doors and bending the handles back into place after intimate encounters with rocks and trees. The new doors frames can be covered with whatever you like - diamond plate, smooth aluminum plate, sheet metal, expanded metal, lexan, nothing, whatever.

woooooohooooooooo!

got one made put can't post till tuesday.
i think you'll like them
they even have a subliminal "LC" in them ;)
it's pretty much just the tube work right now without hinges and a latch.

jim

sorry for the lack or pictures

nice. coming along real nice. I expect to be on your list :) - as I am one of the main ones here crying for these for the past couple years...

so...the latch and hinge setup are key. Am I to read from your link that you will use a system like i suggested above in #55 - I am confused as your link said "they will mount up to the body hinge as if you were removing the pin to take your hard doors off and installing these" - so does that mean it will use the bulky hard door style hinge system or the above slimmer drop in soft door system but with a pin rather than gravity??

Also, the latch will be key. your PM's sounded good - and the execution thus far is great - so I have high expectations for the latch as well :)

They will have the tubing with the drop down pins.
a quick change sort of set up. just like we talked about.

i need to hit my steel supplier this week for tubing that matches the factory pins, i dont want any slop in the hinge set up.

almost there :D
