so how much would one pay for a set of high quality tube doors? ;) :D

A quick web search for Jeep tube doors returned prices from $150 to $280 for the pair. It all depends on the design.

I think - IF the design kicked ass (like that top photos) and came with the pads and net (like the last photos) - I would pay $300 on the high end. but they need to kick ass. if they do not kick ass, I think that standard +-$200 jeep range is where I would want to be as well.

my buddy (a welder) and I started to discuss this yesterday as well. he has the skill, just needs the time. something may come of it as he helped me build my sliders. I think a conveniant latch system (for a home welder) would be the sticking point.

I have a friend who made 1/8" thick diamond plate half doors. Fast and easy to fab. And nice if you go where there is brush.

I'd like to see some tube doors with an expanded steel skin. Might have a cheese grater affect on your knees though.

I agree with wantatlc. I'd pay $300 for well-designed tube doors (like the first pic in his previous post). The design in the last pic would definitely not be desirable because of the lack of cross supports.

I like that last pick only becuase the defining shape is good, and too convey the idea of the pad and mesh net - I certainly agree that the design is weak with no cross support. BUT, it would still be better than a soft door or no door, so if it was that or nothing, I would take it.

that top photo design is awesome (and the gold standard I think) and they even worked in some hinge cover that doubles as covering and protection of the hinge. I could live without that piece, but still kind of cool.

i've been looking at "slam latches" on line to see whats out there.
i've got a 69/40 and know what the striker looks like on it, but how bout something newer?
are they pretty much the same?

the shaffer latch would work on a striker shown........

fair enough...

these are some cool designs that fit what I personally like in the tube door concept (1.5" tube). I also like the idea of being able to attach a pad and/or netting. much better protection than no door or a softdoor (what I run) with the same benefits (and then some).

- best design to me.

the shaffer lacth is a bummer though becuase it requires that striker that sticks out so far. which is rough on an FJ (and the body) when trying to get in and out.

I like the simple idea that you see on the SOR doors. but only openable from the inside, no need for outside latch access.

and I wonder if this could be a possible latch idea for a door?

are all 40 strikers the same?

guess i should go look :D

Looks like the '63-'74 had the same striker. '75-'84 used a different design.

Nope. They changed from '74 to '75.

edit: got beat again. The stupid links slowed me down. :D

i think the shaffer latch would work on the 75-84 latches.
just mount it below the striker instead of how it's shown.

who makes that latch? link?

let me see when i can get a proto type done......couple weeks prolly.
to busy now, but i think i'll do them :D

COMING SOON TO MUD!!!!!!! ;)

Half Doors

Here are the prototype doors my son just made for me. They're designed so you don't have to mess with the hinges or striker when you change from full to half doors.

very very nice work... clean. does that handle have a spring action to it?

now, can your son make me a pair that

1) looks like the first image in post #18 https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=1216075&postcount=18

2) not skinned

3) uses his hinge system

4) uses his striker/close handle system

I am dead serious...
