So, I have driven Guzzler (the 1984 FJ-60) from CO down to NM to be ready to sacrifice the important parts for this truck. Mostly that means the OME suspension. I'm going to try and keep the rest of the truck together (we have a set of stock 60 springs in storage) and then either sell it (advert: it's East Coast Beautiful!), donate it to a charity, or part it out when that time comes.
Aside from having a 2F, and a little issue with the drivers side window regulator as I went to badge into the employee parking lot (it wouldn't close more than 3/4 of the way--something inside the regulator is just spinning) it really drives nicely. I did 65-70mph most of the way (other than going over Raton and Glorieta passes, I did about 35 up those), and even got just north of 14mpg. Not bad for a carbureted, 4 speed, lifted-but stock geared 60 I must say.
...but I will definitely enjoy having more power, and not having to stop all the time just to get gas! I should be able to do the trip nonstop (and nearly halfway back) on one tank of fuel. I can in my faux-lix, the Blue-Jay 40, or the HJ-61.
Once I got Guzzler up to the shop tonight, I pulled one of my 1HZ IPs, so that I can get one rebuilt and try it on this engine to see if we can't make it clatter.
I also played with the power supply and the door wiring to see if I can figure out the power windows and locks for the front door. I have the power windows for the drivers side figured out, and the passenger side as well. I *think* I even understand how to wire the two together so that I can control the passenger side with the driver side switch. Same for the locks--I *think* I get it. Will take some wire scraps to test out my theory next time I get to work on the truck.
Since I had the power supply out, I had to play with a box of LED lights I have waiting for projects. A minimum of three of them will be going on the 60. Lets just say I will never want for light. Never. My mom went about 300 feet away from the front lights, and could still easily read the lettering on the zipper of her jacket. I can't wait to see them on the front of the truck. I do live up in the mountains, and I often am driving to and from work at odd hours, and I've seen Mountain Sheep, Deer, Elk and once a Moose on the road. Light makes me happy.
That's all for now. It was a quick trip, but I need to get back to CO to help my sister install a wood stove, and then go back to work.
