Which Oil Filter Would You Rather Use?(TRD/OEM)

Amazon has become nothing but counterfeit garbage.
You are spot on.

I gave up on buying Amazon filters because of that. Not worth the risk on such a vital component to get cheap Chinese crap.

Just buy 10 oil filters at a time to get the economies of scale of reputable dealer shipping cost spread out. Or wait till they have the +$75 spent free shipping promotion :)

Another fun video showing that the OE Toyota filters are fairly meh.

Color of oil does not indicate filter quality. Didn’t even watch video but saw click bait picture.
Good for you. If you actually do watch the video, it tests filtration, flow rate, and holding capacity of 16 different filters including several OEM's as well as numerous off the shelf filters.

Interesting video. I also watched the one titled “best oil filters of 2024” (@04UZJ100 click bait applies to the titles as well) because it features the amsoil filter and I use that one more than the Mr. T ones. It had best filtration but was dinged on flow rating… I feel like you can’t have both best flow rating and best filtration

All in all it’s all good info but my gut tells me timely oil change intervals make a lot of this filter talk superfluous.

This, exactly.

The fact that I can't get the TRD filters anymore and will now move to OEM doesn't bother me at all.. well, the viton o-rings were nice I guess.

Even the high quality Amsoil ones are out of stock, which is what I usually go with. The Fram Ultra Synthetic has gotten good reviews in a lot of tests. As much as I don't want to go the Fram route, my oil change is coming up and I might have to use it. At least you can easily get it from Walmart. :D

You can get original Toyota at walmart as well

True, but for the money, better flow rates AND filtration due to synthetic filter media over cellulose makes the Ultra the better choice. Is it WAY better, or will it make a difference over time with 5000 mile oil changes? Maybe...maybe not...but it definitely will not hurt.

I won’t buy anything from walmart, was just saying it’s an option.

Personally I’d rather Toyota’s ability to deliver consistently fault-free parts over anything fram, and I’m in the “those things won’t make a difference over an oil change interval” camp.. which makes that decision easy.

3URs aren’t consistently failing from lubrication issues despite the broad array of filters being used in them.

I agree for the most part. Toyota doesn't make the filters though and all manufacturers put out a defect every so often. There also isn't a slew of reported defective Ultra Fram filters ruining engines. All I can do is understand what are superior components or superior chemistry, etc. and base my decision on those parameters on what is best. If the cost is irrelevant, than why not?

Flow could be an issue i guess. But with a positive displacement oil pump, the same amount of oil is going to move through the engine regardless of the dP across the filter.

I am not sure that the pressure is that important as long as the filter media can handle it.

Same price.

I like that my source is a dealer, so there is no question of authenticity.

Don't know why you are asking on the 200 Series forum, but here you go:

Here’s the Fram Endurance filter I ordered. They do still have the plastic caps in this application.

Looks like decent quality media from the pic. Interesting they used plastic v metal caps.
