Here's a VOA of the Castrol 5w-50... Castrol Syntec 5W50 SM VOA - Bob Is The Oil Guy

Good oil, but nothin' you can't find in Rotella at 1/3 the price...

The VOA is for the syntec flavor. Maybe the EDGE version is a bit higher ? Or just better base oils... ?

I have always run rotella 5w40 synthetic in my 80.
15w40 Dino rotella in everything else. I have heard
from numerous sources it is not near what it used
to be. Did someone post hard numbers of the current
15w40 rotella?

The Castrol Edge 5W50 with extra ZDDPwill be about a $100 oil change after the Wix filter is purchased.

Damn that is pricey.

After reading numerous threads online I purchased Brad Penn - Penn Grade 1 - SAE 20W-50, partial synthetic high performance motor oil-part# 099-7719. It has increased levels of zinc (1500 ppm) and phosphorus required for flat tappet motors. Picked it up from a distributor in town for ~$4.50/qt.

Anyone have any experience with Brad Penn oils?

Very good oils and that's a good oil for your 2F. And at a good price.

I'm not here to bash or disagree with anyone, all of you have very good points on oil quality and viscosity.I'm just trying to remind everyone that it is a tractor engine which revs less than 4k rpm and for most of us we put less than 5k miles a year on our rig.it's totally up to you on how much you want to spend.just my 2 pennies.

252K miles and not a spot of build up or sludge anywhere. Can't say enough good things about Mobil 1.

Sooo.... I've reached 4k since I bought my 60, and I've been wanting to do an oil change to get rid of the little bit of cheap oil I've been adding every few months, so since I needed a new coolant hose today, I bought some Royal Purple 20W-50.... was this a mistake? and real quick, whats the capacity of the 2F? (I havent had to change the oil yet, but a quick search said 8-9q?)

royal purple is good stuff. And you need all of those bottles..

While there is nothing wrong with that oil, to think an old 2F needs it is a mistake. You could save serious $$ and just run Delo 15w-40, or Rotella 15w-40.

If you are determined to run synthetic (which is good, just expensive) run Mobil1 15w-50. It's cheaper and more available and less hype than Royal Purple.

fj60 oil

87 fj60 - time for a oil change trying to decide what kind

so does this still sound like a good choice -
Rotella 15w-40

My 2 cents: any good 20W50
I'm using Mystik 20W50 JT8 for farm equipment...

HJ 61 with 420000km always cheap 15w40 and still going strong.
For a try a gave him ones a expensive full synthetic oil wich makes the engine noisy and more smokey.
I changed back to mineral oil and the engine was happy straight away.
I love my tractor:bounce:

I'm done

After a little over a year and 2800 miles since i last change the oil, today is the day to do it and so i went to Wally world (Walmart) and pick up some oil and a jug of soap for all my POS.I'm down to one Toyota oil filter and decided to buy a Wix instead and save the Toyota for another day.You can see the big difference with the two filters and also the weight.I tried this Delvac which seems to be good and priced at $13 a gallon.:D

Why don't you run the stuff they put in those V12s !! :D

FWIW, 1200 PPM zinc on the Delvac 1300 - I'd add a smidgen ZDDP 'cuz after 3K miles it's down to around 600-800, too low for my liking...

Now get to work or the :princess: will find something for you to do!

:grinpimp:

(I hear my :princess: calling now...)

While there is nothing wrong with that oil, to think an old 2F needs it is a mistake. You could save serious $$ and just run Delo 15w-40, or Rotella 15w-40.

I've been looking around or pricing. And Autozone has the best price for the Rotella 15w-40.

$3.50 a quart if you buy the 2.5 gallon bottle.
