I'll check that out. I have friends that go up there all the time. Canada doesn't want me in there country because of a mistake I made back in 97. I never heard of using different rubber for diesel. I got my gasket material from remnants when I was working in the shipyards. I suppose big boats don't use gas.

I bought the wrench and proper 1 1/8" funnel as well. Expensive day, but I won't have to buy new cans ever again.

Dstactical sells both the Viton gaskets (for gasoline) and the rubber gaskets (for diesel). They do have awesome prices on their cans...hence that is where I buy them when I am visiting Canada.

I was told Viton for diesel, rubber for petrol. Was I misinformed?

That's kinda what I always thought too. But with the knowledge that biodiesel use required no natural rubber products. Regular diesel is fine with rubber.

The ethanol blends we have in the USA these days will swell and eat natural rubber over time. So Viton or other non-rubber products could or should be used with these petrol/gasoline blends. I've had pump blend (10%) ethanol eat the rubber components in my 1962 Ford tractor, my chainsaw, bush hog and an ATV.

Will DS tactical ship those cans to the US?

I'm in the same boat....was 99' for me though.

No. The US made it illegal along with hefty fines for businesses to ship Scepter jerry cans into the US. Which is why I bought a whole bunch of them from DS Tactical before that law took affect along with the child safety locking jerry can law and CAFE law.

not trying to get off topic, but can someone explain to me why they all of a sudden were illegal? Did something happen, did someone die from a scepter can....?

C.A.R.B. happened.

What if I ordered the "water cans"? What is the difference between the gas cans and the water cans save for the 3 handles verses 1?

The diesel and gas cans have different gaskets for seals that's for sure. The water cans don't have gaskets.

As for fuel vs water can, perhaps the formulation of the plastic is different also. Food grade vs specific chemical grade.

I use a water can and ordered a Buna-N seal from McMaster.

what about the small outlet on the top ? I think i am going to buy that gasket for my scepter water cans. no mater how tight I get the lids they still leak water. I even called scepter up and told them the problem I was having and they traded both of mine out with new ones. They claimed they should not leak. The new ones leak WTF. I had three fuel cans that I got from a local small airplane charter. One day on a dark and stormy night, I forgot to close my tailgate and one feel out . I was sooo made. Funny thing about my fuel cans is they don't leak at all.

You may try to source nato cans from the sportsmans guide. I have bought several from them and have been pleased with what I got and the price- Currently $35.99 for new old stock.

So scepter fuel cans are just unobtainium now? Plenty of water cans though. I see some have just changed out the seal and used them for fuel but dammit, I want it to say fuel!
