Dickey's Barbecue Pit

This is fairly legit BBQ. Routine and bottom 1/3 in Texas, but I look forward to their arrival here.

Dickey's has been franchising their restaurants for several years. It's a crap shoot as to BBQ quality depending on who runs the individual location. There's one in Frisco near our daughters house that's excellent. The first Austin Dickey's recently opened, about 3 blocks from our house, and it's terrible. The joint is always empty. I doubt they'll survive a year.

i do not get the fascination with 5 guys. i'd rather punch myself in the nuts, cook my own burger, and save $12.

x2. Overrated and overpriced. We have one 5 Guys in Austin and it's not going over. Too many better choices, around here anyway.

Dickey's sound like what happened at Corky's.

There is only on with a real pit....all the others are electric. The Corky's on Park is good for ribs the others suck.

The problem is that there are good places for each cut/type of meat but not good for all. So just make your rounds as the taste buds go.

I hate to say it b/c it seems to be a fav with the CLC crowd but McClard's sucks.. Nolen usually has a good taste but I would rather eat McDonalds than waste my cash there.

Ha! I went one time just to see what the hype was all about... a soggy wendy's style burger and a pound of greasy fries accompanied with a lot of noise and a long wait.
My experience exactly

EDIT: Funny. I posted my comment before reading all the way to the end of the threads before me. Looks like 5 Guys definitely doesn't win EVERYBODY over!

I hate to miss an entire day on Mud. JesS has messed up every other thread, but this one still seems to be surviving without too much anger. :flipoff2:

Looks pretty sauced up. Assuming you can get them to hold that aspect. Only thing I don't like about west Tennessee barbecue. Well, that and it's in west Tennessee.

TJK

Julie brought me some from the one in Meridian. The first time it was just sliced dry brisket. Beans were good, the only Jalapeno beans in Mississippi that I have found and I rather miss them. The next time she brought me some, I asked her to get them to chop me some extra moist brisket and it was good, not great mind you, but it gave me the "fix"......kinda like a Qdoba burrito versus Chipotle....

My love affair for 5 Guys is waning very fast as I find MUCH better alternatives around town. 5 Guys is the only fast-food burger in the area that I will eat. You can't carry it out though or it is a wet mess. Leave off the lettuce and tomato and it does not get soggy. I give it a B. In - N - Out owns it. SO much better for fast food burgers.

Yeah, like I said, good for outside of Texas but bottom 20% in Texas.

I don't go to McLards. I did a few times, I like the vibe, I like the huge plate of food and I like the Tamale mess with cheese and all that stuff. The BBQ is not that great. I still send people there that have never been to Hot Springs because it is a cool spot.

I likes the ribs from the guy we used at the Crawl much better.

You have In-N-Out burgers in Jackson? I'm envious. The only Texas locations I know of are in DFW.

No, no, no....Texas is as far East as they go.

I threw them in because last year 5 Guys unseated In-N-Out at the #1 fast food burger in the country and even then I was a little bit happier with 5 Guys and I just laughed.

In-N-Out is 100% kick ass.

I also love Blake's Lottaburgers in New Mexico. Very In-N-Out like.

Green Chilis.......for the win.

As our friend Butch would say, x a bazillion on Blake's Lottaburger.

I just heard there was a "Build your own Burrito" place coming in next door to me here in Flowood.

My money would be on Qdoba.

That would be groovy.
