I don't remember right off the top of my head. It might have even been pre-2000. Nothing special about the approach I was using then. Although I do still like the 3/4 inch mounting pad approach.

After our first Cruise Moab, I was reading through the July/August 2003 issue of the Toyota Trails and saw an article by Mark Whatley that detailed installing 60 series power steering into a 40. This became a central idea to my build. I knew I could tolerate modifying my 40 if I did it with pieces from a 60 series Land Cruiser. Soon I had a project workflow – I would lift the vehicle first, and then add power steering.
 
Thank you so much for the information I had looked back through 2004!!!! with no luck. Found the right issue now with a piggy on the cover. A friend is putting a 60 PS box on his 40 and is coming here today to look at my 40 to see how it was done. I highly recommend Mark's approach using the 3/4" mounting plate rather than bolting through the frame rails with bolts and nuts. Thanks for the info much appreciated!!!!!
