The wiring harness is easy to unplug to remove the doors.

But can you still work your power windows and locks? I guess you wouldn't need the locks, but I don't think my rear power windows would work withough the master control on the drivers door. Maybe I should swipe another wire harness and window controller from the wrecking yard, stick it under the dash for doorless adventures? :hmm: Or just take off the rear doors too?? Hmmm....

The simple answer is to go trade it in on an FJ. Or just remove all the doors. I use the key fob to lock/ unlock/ set alarm. I have a pet barrier so everything in the trunk is locked up and out of site.

After your first post Luke I would have answered with what you already came up with. Definitely either get the harness from the junk yard or just fab up rear tube doors as well. You could definitely do it. It will make a huge difference on tougher trails like chinaman's at least for me and my fat Albert. Beach, the latches that were on it were beet up pretty good and me and the father in law got them to work but he was very unimpressed with them. I didn't want to start engineering anything so I just ordered new ones and the ones I got seemed almost 2 times beefier. I am impressed with how well they work now. Let me know what you come up with as I just bought 2 tarps for now in case it starts to rain hard.

Can u let me know where u found the new latches? I'll keep you posted on the door ideas that we come up with.

I got them through metal tech. The new latches I got didn't match the other ones I had so I assume they upgraded. The latches that came with the doors were not the same either. It seems like they have tried a few different places for latches over time. The ones I have now are thicker steel then the old ones, but it is the same design as one of the original ones. I wouldn't say its twice as thick but they seem a lot better.

I believe the next "air compressor drag race" will be mine.

It was two harnesses and they were pretty simple to work with. My only gripe is I lost the speakers in the doors and i think my phone is louder then my radio now. I will have to address this sometime. I think outside weatherproof speakers screwed to the doors and get a couple harness ends made up to plug into the existing. Oh and it sounds like an airplane taking off when I hit 50 mph. The wife will most likely hate it but I love it.

Dang, did you get that new or used. I don't mean to pry but how much. I like how you mounted it in the back, makes for easier access and away from the engine with all the heat.

Funny thing is, I've had this system since Christmas 2010. My wife got it for me that year. It's a Viair 100% duty cycle tank system, its pretty pricey. I would have never bought it for myself. I used to have the compressor mounted in the 4runner, all the rest of it has been in a box since then. Lol. Designed for 37 and up tires, should be just fine for my little bitty 33's. The bracket took me way too dang long to fab up, bolts entirely to the original spare tire carrier location. Holds the gauge, pressure switch, tank, compressor, an air chuck, and a blow nozzle. Doesn't take up much room, and is thankfully about 1/8 as loud as my old POS MV50. Just a dull hum really. I still think there's no reason to have a tank on your rig, but I already owned it, so what the heck. I figure if nothing else, I'll use the compressed air to help get campfires going :)

More progress on the FJ40 this weekend...wiring is about 95% run and done, just a few minor things to do. Should get the tranny hump, gas tank and passenger seat in this week. Still have to paint the front bezel and grill this week so I can get the headlights in. Here is hoping that everything works when I try and fire it up...

Man, you should post up a pic or two of the 40 after the hood was put back on... lookin' good.

Nothing too exciting happening here. Just epoxied my snapped antenna mount back together. It was a pretty clean break, so I wasn't sure there was going to be enough for the epoxy to "grab on to", but a I pulled and pushed on it pretty good and it's still in one piece. Still going to make switching out to the mag mount a part of my normal pre-trail procedure.

Hahaha, I forgot about the bent bumper. Wasn't that Hackett he bent his bumper? That thing was arrow straight and stuck way, way out. It was much better after he "fixed" it.
