Pulled the front wheels off tonight to have a look at the brake pads, put a wrench on the trunnion studs, etc.

While I was in there I gave the tie-rod and such a tug. How much should those move? There's no side to side or up down play that I can feel but it twists quite a bit. Have a video - I'll see if I can post it.

You should be fine if you aren't getting any wobbles. A while back, I had some severe and very random death wobble and all of my TREs checked out just fine. I replaced all of them and everything went away. Just the small amount of excess play in all of them attributed to the wobble.

Thanks - haven't noticed any handling issues. Will follow Luke's suggestion tonight and watch the ends while somebody moves the wheel.

Hey Leon, I'm guessing this is what your shock mount looked like this time last year.

Yep, Glad you caught it now, before it turned into a hole like mine!!!

Here's what it looked like cleaned up and beat flat. Three cracks.

I welded the cracks, the put a plate over the whole business.

Off to check the other side...

Other side was cracked also. Not as bad, but not good.

I would have thought she was almost done chyle. I am not sure you can make it any prettier then she is.

I just picked up some stock replacement shocks from rancho for the jeep. That thing was all over the place and was taking dives in the turns. I didn't go with the bilsteins as it would have to be the blue and yellow ones or so I am told. I haven't read anything bad about the rancho's and I really wanted the 9000's but they don't make those for 0 lift as well. Hopefully these last until I am ready for a lift. Put them on tonight as well and it drove way better. Held the corners better then the fj though that has no front sway bar. I had problem on the trail hitting bumps from side to side and knocking my head as the cab moved all over. Hope this stops that.

Cool. I'm sure you are ready to get the truck back in action ASAP.
I definitely am. It's been a long and messy project, but it's nothing I can't handle. I find its easier to do a few hours at a time instead of trying to knock out as much as I can at once.

I got about 4 hours on it today. Friday, a couple buddies came over and helped dropped everything in to place. I did have a motor mount break, so I need to get a new one of those, as well as a couple items I looked over when I got parts before (o-rings for injector cups, fuel gaskets, etc).

Andrew - I might need to take a look at your cruiser for a couple things. One plug off the wiring harness came off since it's so old. It might be a dummy plug since I can't seem to find another connection near the cold start injector and temp sensor on the thermostat housing. The plug came off the same loom. Also, I would have left it in place and it should be right there, but I can't seem to find the ground cable for the starter. Finally, do you have a braided wire ground from your transfer case to the frame? I have one hanging off, but I'm 90% sure it was corroded off vs being pulled off when the entire assembly got removed.

Here's how she sits now. I'm guessing a couple more days once I get parts and it'll be good to go. Accessories are easy to put on, and the FI components are easy enough once I get the other small bits.

There is only 1 dummy plug I can see...it's been hanging out between the cold start injector and the brake booster:

My starter is pretty cruddy right now. I can't make out any ground cable, but I thought it just grounded to the block?

The only thing I see is this loomed cable on the drivers side. Looks like it has a lug on the end instead of a plug. Can't see where it leads and can't crawl around in the garage much tonight.

I really need to clean my truck :meh:

Hopefully this helps. Either way, I could drive to your house sometime and you could just inspect anything you need to.

I would have left the ground cable in place of it was there. Only reason I ask is that there was one attached to the new block I picked up. Must be a 62 thing.

I'll get the truck back together and probably have you come over with the cruiser just to double check everything. Should have parts on Thursday to complete. So wrenching on Friday/Saturday/Sunday to try and button it up.

Cool. I'll be happy to come by, check out your work and let you inspect my truck. I don't think extra ground wires/straps could hurt. If in doubt, I would just go ahead and ground the starter, t-case, etc.

I might run one from the transfer case to the frame. There is already giant ground runnin from the battery tray to the motor mount area.

Hopefully the parts arrive tomorrow.

Solid you figure out your valve lash problem? I was concerned something might have been different between years of the engines.

It was freezing cold that day. So it probably had something to do with that.

Got em all adjusted just fine on a much warmer day.

The motor mount I need won't be in til the Monday after Easter. Hope it's sooner, but we shall see. Have the rest of the stuff I need. We will see what I get together tomorrow and I'll post up pics!

Got it home! Now its time for all the finish work.

All the rough spots ground down and fully primered

Powdercoating is a little expensive for my taste right now, so for the final finish I'm going to try this Rustoleum Spray truck bedliner. It doesnt build real thick like Line-x but it should be fine for what I'm doing.

Figured out what the plug that fell off was for. It went to the AC compressor.

Finished getting the FI back together, upper intake plenum on, plus the AC compressor and PS pump. Once the motor mount shows up, I'll get that in, get the alternator on, then radiator, etc. Not much left to do, just need a single part!
