Just finished desmogging the 3FE. Well, atleast the engine anyways. Still have to take the cats off, or gut them. Up in the air about that.

Andrew, thanks for that block off plate! Works great! Owe you a couple beers!

Cool. How does the block off plate look? Post up a picture if you get a chance. I made a few and was thinking about posting them up for sale...Just havn't got around to trying one out myself. Oh, and don't forget to hold on tight when you unleash that extra 1.236 HP! :steer:

Oh yea. That extra power is amazing lol. It does make it idle smoother like I read. Plate looks really good, and does it's job. Removing the valve cover is definitely essential to putting the plugs in where the air injectors were.

Speaking of air injectors, those things are disgusting. 3 out of 4 where severely blocked, with the closest ones to the air pump being almost completely blocked.

Will post up a pic of the plate later when I get a chance.

Looking good.

Rattle can or a gun?

Rattle can from www.automotivetouchup.com. They are a bit nicer than auto part store cans. They have a vertical spray pattern like a gun. I bought primer, 2 cans of basecoat (2-tone truck), and clear coat. The baseocat is mixed to match the factory color, and they provide test cards to check the color. They will re-mix for free if it does not match. Pretty reasonable prices. I don't think this will end up looking perfect, but I'm looking forward to having a truck that looks good from ~10 ft again.

Interesting. If you put our trucks together, you have a complete de-smog, since my cats are removed.:)

IIRC, your truck probably has space for a dual battery setup now. I beleive the battery box from a FZJ80 bolts in on the driver side with the smog equipment/lines removed.

It'll look good until the next time you ride with me! lol

There's still some stuff in the way on that side. There's a pipe with a fan that blows are in after the truck is turned off to cool it down. That could be removed though. Once that's removed there's probably enough room. No desire for a dual battery setup, though it might be the prime spot to mount my air compressor should I decide too.

Some sliders will address that issue.

Yeah, you have to remove that fan thing to make room. I really don't understand what that thing is supposed to do.

Haven't had it out yet. There are actually some stainless bushings that were left out of my parts packages so I called Smittybilt, and they are two day shipping them to me- no questions asked. Impressed with the customer service, extremely impressed with the build quality. They've definite upped their game. Kinda sad that my light weight advantage is going away, this bumper is very heavy. I'll probably end up having to add in a 1/2 inch lift block to compensate, but I love the way my cherokee feels and rides when loaded, so this will give me that all the time. I wished I had the gas can this past weekend tooling around on Red Cone. We ran five trails and got pretty low on gas, nice to have extra.

Right now, I got some loud bangs every once in a while. I just don't want to start chasing problems on my jeep as well. I am going to pull the skids and quiet down the radiator and see what happens. I also need to tighten up the e-brake or replace all together. I have never worked on that so I will probably be on you tube checking things out tonight. I almost feel like I should have kept it stock and I wouldn't have these problems.

Keep it stock? Please. You'd get bored running dirt roads! Lol

If you drive an old beater with greasy guts they make enough noise by themselves that you get used to clans and clunks.... kind of a lie though, new squeaks annoy me something fierce, even on my 30 year old 40...

It's either skid plates or a bearing going out in one of my upper control arms. I can handle the noise as long as I know it isn't going to fail or cause problems down the road. Not knowing what it is bugs me though. I can only get the noise when I drive it , it won't replicate in the garage. We will see. Trade it in on a 40 might be the only option at this point? LOL
What wrong with an old dirt road anyways. LOL
