What was I thinking...?

Sorry, been on vacation, trying to not think about this too much. Here's a bit of an update.

My check cleared but there was a mixup as to whether the carb had shipped. When I inquired, it was immediately shipped.

Benefit of the doubt, I probably threw the gaskets away with the packaging. They weren't in the box but could very well have been mixed in with the packaging.

Georg to the rescue, sent me two gaskets overnight, no charge for the shipping or the gaskets. What can I say.... This is a great community.

Carb bolted on, vacuum leaks at the butterfly valve and where the bottom and top come together. Put the two mechanics on the phone together and they determined that there is so little vacuum (3#?) that there must be leaks elsewhere. The five most likely external places are being checked and failing that, valves will be checked and adjusted if needed.

Then the carb will go back to have the apparent vacuum leaks addressed.

Meanwhile, the rear springs are broken -- as Nolen says but there are no hard feelings. They needed to be replaced at some point so I'm glad that I'm married to a rich woman. ;) Now waiting on the boat from Australia. At this rate, I'll have this topless truck ready for sub-zero, winter fun.

The good news is that my engine temp gauge now works.

And I'm on vacation and have good friends.

Thanks to everyone for your help and especially to Georg.

Todd, are you sayin' the carb is going back to the Left Coast? Say it ain't so. :hhmm:

After we isolate and eliminate the other vacuum leaks, yes. The leak at the butterfly valve may be minor enough that it won't matter after we solve the others but the leak where it comes together needs to be addressed. May set it up to be desmogged at the same time.

It's a process. Or something like that.

Plus if I ship it back to Cali, it's just that much closer to Georg. :)

A process. Yeah. Got it.

I hope you aren't expected to pay for shipping and/or additional repair costs. :bang:

If you are, you may as well ship the carb to Georg or Marlin.

That had occurred to me as well.

That stinks that you're having that much trouble. If Mark was a smart businessman, he SHOULD refund your money for the issues you're having with the carb. I'm guessing you won't be recommending Mark anytime soon.

i gotta find me one of them rich women. the "not rich" kind ain't workin out for me!

I have to agree w/ you sir!

I have the smart and pretty wife but I married this Mexican Woman for love and not for money, Darn it! :hillbilly:
