Sweet! Just bought those under hood LED's can't wait to put some light under the hood!

Ok, wanted to get back to some details that I was able to do before SMORR.

First off was to mount the HAM radio. This is a remote faceplate unit, so the base unit has to be somewhere that has open air movement to dissipate heat. Looking under the driver side area, there is tons of room, but no great place to mount it. Decided that the best place was if I could mount it next to the cruise control unit. but it was on the opposite side of the mount. As I did not want to screw into the actual cruise control unit, I welded some "C" channel pieces to wrap around the cruise unit and make a new mounting braket. Here is what I came up with. Fits like a glove. Out of the way of water and plenty of air movement. The first pic below, you can see the original bracket on the bottom, my "C" sections welded on the back making the new level.

Night before departure (actually morning before departure-long night), the last thing on the list was to get the new hitch receiver done and the rear bumper. I was looking for an old school feel. I had this piece of stainless steel hanging around that I thought would be perfect. As I deleted the rear side marker and tail lights (damage magnets), I had the idea of using fj40 taillights. Issue was that I wanted to reinforce this stainless bumper with some DOM tubing, so I had no clearance to put the lights recessed. KCChevota had the idea of using some led lights and flush mounting the lens over them. Works awesome.

I will try to get some pics of the receiver behind the action. I took a OEM hitch that was in my parts bin out of a 470 lexus and reworked it to fit. Bent the plates from the original hitch and welded to the frame then sleeved and welded it all in. Now I have a great recovery point receiver.

I am still trying to figure out how I am going to finish the sides. Suggestions?

Backing up a little, and sorry for the mud. I have been waiting the 30 days for full cure on the Monstaliner before I pressure wash it.

On the late night last night prep for SMORR, we worked on the recovery point/receiver for FOO.

Took a Toyota factory hitch that was on a 470, cut the tube off the end, then bent the end to 90 degrees. 1/4 plate, so used Rob R. press brake, and it bent like butter.

Welded the plate to the frame.

The tube was about 2" short on each side, so found some tube that ID was same as OD. Sleeved and plug welded it.

I tig welded it to rear stainless bumper. Not much room to get to the pin, so put a key type pin in there. Don't plan to pull anything, so just mounted the "Foo" personalized recovery point by Custom Splice. -- Thanks guys for laser engraving "foo" on it!

As you see, it is now flush with rear frame, so nothing hanging down low to snag on.

So, need some help today. Looking to add a soft top to cover the rear passenger area when we have rain. I received suggestions to purchase as jeep CJ soft bikini top kit, which seems to make sense. Anyone know about these and if it is the right direction.

Here is a link I found where they did it on a Scout. I am looking at doing it right behind the sunroof and extend it back about 3 feet. The width needs to be at least 4'.

Also looking for what brand I should get if this is the right direction.

Little early. But. How bout tarp or sunbrella with grommets and the bungees u use to hold hoses together

There are no dimensions on any of those bestop kits, but I opened all the installation instructions, and it does appear that the best one from a design point is the 51209 kit for the landcruiser or cj. Still looking for widths....

The windshield frame is just over 50" if I remember right. My guess is we will run into several jeeps this weekend and you can get some good measurements width and length.

On wiring, on most threads, power is taken from the existing seat connection going to the seat motors. It is a 30amp power supply that is always hot. From that you put a 10 amp fuse that is needed for both of the front seat heaters (4 total pads). Well, I don't always remember to turn off power to things, and because this power source is not switched, I needed a way to make this switched. So, I found that the green wire with silver stripe at the same seat harness connection was a switched power source. So, I added a relay, where if the green wire has power the relay allows the 10amp fused line to pass power through to the heater switches. The lower relay seen in the picture is part of the harness from the ebay seat heaters. I installed switches for the heaters on the dash under the radio. I had previously removed the heater under the pass seat, and no alarm on my rig, so those spots were open.

Liking Bestop customer service.... here is what they sent..
Hi Kelly,The FJ40 bikini, part number 52540-01, does use the 51209-01 windshield channel. It is about 50" long, 52" wide at the front and 45" wide at the back. We have many bikinis for CJ's. The 52508-xx also uses the 51209. It is about 44" long, 44" wide at the front, and 53" wide in the back.
Thank You

Given these dimensions, looks like I need the fj40 kid and channel.

The OEM wiring is coming off the 20A Rear Heater fuse, which is switched on IGN. Could be wrong, but I just checked it again, so pretty sure. No matter though.

Oh, well I need to pull seats out to work on the plastic gears, so will double check.

you need a york air compressor in place of your a/c.. i have 2 under my bench. i just don't have room under my hood. i loved having it on my jeep.
