I had the oil changed and checked all fluid levels before taking it on the highway. Prior to the breakdowgn, all gauges were reading normal. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Where? Seems pretty odd that it ran well for 10k miles, gets an oil change and 130 miles later the engine blows?

Sharp looking truck - thanks for the photos.

At some point, the engine will likely have to come out for significant bearing repair. But, if head is good, and the compression is good (you can still test that now), you can get an idea of how deep you need to go into the engine. Your mechanic (perhaps rightfully) may want to rebuild the entire thing, so that he knows exactly what shape everything is in, but $10K is a big stash of cash. He may not want to do it any other way, and that's his prerogative. You, however, are writing the check. Of course, any oil system repair on this engine would require that you find out exactly what happened and if any oil passages are clogged.

Years ago, I bought a used 2F with 180K on it that had excellent compression and oil pressure - ran like a top. No reason you couldn't install a solid 2F in your truck and move on, for a lot less than $10K. If you do the swap, it'll be even less.

I spoke with your 60's PO back in October when he first put it up for sale and I thought he had a shop in Phoenix do all of the work on it. I just can't remember which one...

He had some pals who had purchased turn key built 40s and 60s and decided he wanted one. I think they did the A440 as someone in the family couldn't drive a manual. I don't think the truck saw much use, if any.

This has already been posted up on the CSC sub-forum and I bet you'll find the shop that built it pretty soon.

The PO spent a fortune on that truck (ARBs F&R, Howell EFI, several K with Dave Gore on armor/shackle reversal/swingout, etc...) so taking your time and waiting until you can either find a great running 2F, or if budget allows get a solid one built, seems to make a lot of sense.

I imagine someone will chime in for an LS/4BT/12HT swap promptly...

Best of luck on this! You've got a lot of great resources in the valley to help.

You've got a great looking truck, with lots of desired & valuable parts on it. You should do everything you can afford in order to get it back in the shape you desire. You might consider some of these options..some of which have already been suggested.
1) get your truck over to Dave Gore in Globe Az. Aka lcwizard who responded in post 6. He is a LandCruiser guy, close to you, knows his stuff & most importantly is honest. He mentioned $3500-4500 for a rebuild. Take him up on it...if you can afford it...if not:
2) buy a solid used 2f for $500 or so and install it yourself. It's not hard, plenty of help is available here, and you will gain a lot of knowledge that you will need if you plan to keep this truck.
3) your choice, but I think most would ditch that rebuilt auto and install a H55. If you can't afford that...ditch it anyway and put a good H42 or H41. You could prob get $1k from 'someone' for that auto...to put in their 62 with a failed tranny.

You're in a bad position for sure and I'm sorry for that. It is what it is...do the best you can with what you can afford. You've got a great platform to work with, & you've got MUD to help.

Thank you PBR. It's been tough as I've never experienced anything of this magnitude before. I've always wanted an LC because of its durability and space. I have specific uses for this vehicle as I enter the fall season of my life. I'm looking to resolve the situation with reasonable monetary investment but more importantly, with reliability and dependability as my major concerns. I don't want to get stuck in some remote location which was a major concern of mine prior to purchasing the vehicle. Your input is greatly sppreciated.

If the 2F package includes the stock carb, distributor, etc. you can bring remove the aftermarket fuel injection and bring the FJ60 back to a level of reliability and dependability that may be lacking with the aftermarket parts. A 4 or 5 speed manual belongs in a FJ60 not an automatic A440F.
