What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (24 Viewers)

Ripped off the hard top and doors since the weather has been awesome lately. Finally got to use a nice cordless impact drill I'd bought 4 months ago because it was on sale, much easier than using a ratchet!

Made a "10 minute" tailgate out of the side of an old desk. Needed something to stop the dog from falling out the back, so it's almost like a woody now..... at least that's what I tell myself to make me feel better.

Bought a Bestop bikini top, since I learned about rain and not having a top last year. Ordered it in and it was here in a couple days, which made me happy. What didn't make me happy was getting the wrong windshield channel. And the missing footman loops for the top to tie down to. Thankfully they were calling for thunderstorms the next day, which made me get creative and after a couple cuts and some drilling, everything turned out fine. I found some cool tie downs that the PO of my house had in a junk drawer in the old shop that I wire wheeled till shiny and they fit with the existing bolts for the hard top, so that made me happy. Goes to show, all that crap that you think you might use one day could come in handy. I sent an email to the company and they said they would discount on future purchases for the mistake which is cool.

Otherwise drove it lots and got some good sunburn. :steer:

this week

Well after about 6 months away I did a little prep for turning it over and stuck my hand over the carb and fired her up!

She fired up as soon as gas got to the carb, best thing is there was no smoke at all! That surprised me.

not a great week, but---Leave it to the FJ to come through and put a smile on my face!:steer:

oh yeah I installed a borgenson shaft and a new manual steering gearbox with a splined U joint and a new yellow top Optima

Bought myself a grease gun and lots of grease and went at the nipples ;)
Haven't done much greasing before, managed to break off a nipple on one of the shackles while trying to disconnect the grease gun:bang: Will have to figure out how to get the rest of the thread out now.
On the good side, I confirmed my suspicion that my mechanics didn't notice the greasable OME suspension, so after lots of grease, the annoying squeak I've been living with forever is gone!! Made for a much smoother ride and the steering feels better as well. Also a good way to learn about linkage and what goes where. I think I need to dig into more general repair so I can be comfortable someday when I break something on the trails.

started prepping my '63 for its first trail in a week as well as generally finishing it up so that I can get back to my '69 which had six shooter knuckles come in the mail for it.

Metal Tech cage, building a seat cradle and mocking up the seat location, figuring out where to set the fuel cell.

Tried to do my manifold seal just to find out that the shop didnt forget to put the last screw in there but broke it instead years ago...... ....damn thats gonna be a PITA to get the old broken one out.
Its the last small one near the firewall...... i hate them for that!

Pulled the tired 2F. Seperated the bell housing, clutch, tranny/tcase from the engine and cleaned it all up for the swap. Next comes cleaning up and painting the engine bay while I'm in there.

not much

I replaced my right front wheel studs and adjusted the carb a little. Swapped out my bikini top for a family bikini top and test fitted my new to me hard doors.

Wished I had time and know how to fix my rear main seal leak!!!

Got Horn!

Figured out that after transfering my 79's harness to the 69 that the reason my horns did not work was because the horn is relayed through the carb cooling fan relay. Snatched the carb fan relay out of the 79 and hooked it up. Got horns. :bounce: Now just waiting on new seat belts and off to get it inspected and registered. Might just make it to CMCC with this one also

I blew out both RR wheel cylinders..
