Next install issue...getting the H-shackle over the bushings was almost impossible. Used the threaded rod trick I found in the search and got one on...now I'm stuck trying to get the bushing to fit in the spring hanger. The bushings at the top at the shackle are super tight and slightly deformed whereas at the spring slid on perfect.

Well had some time this morning to finish up the 4sp/TC and bellhousing. All went good EXCEPT now the transmission is hung in gear. Shifter acts like it is in a semi neutral position... I have a feeling something shifted while I had the assembly in different positions with the shifter was removed. Shifter won't move into gears (up or down) but has some play left to right... ALWAYS SOMETHING!!

I performed a compression test on Lamar's 50 year old F:
#1 = 140 psi
#2 = 140 psi
#3 = 138 psi
#4 = 142 psi
#5 = 130 psi
#6 = 142 psi

I was a bit surprised the values were so consistent. According the the FSM, as long as the lowest pressure cylinder measures >90% of the highest, it's in spec. Original psi was supposed to be 150.I don't know if it was the correct test for my issue but I'm still trying to figure out how I get gasoline in my crankcase and blow small amounts of motor oil out of the filler tube.

Those are great numbers!

I'm not familiar with a '65... but, probably the same as later models... If your mechanical fuel pump's diaphragm fails it will leak gas into the crankcase. You don't want this to happen, it can damage your engine. Might be time for a new mechanical pump...

When you say, 'blow small amounts of motor oil out of the filler tube.", are you referring to the oil filler or the fuel filler?

If you mean the oil filler, it could be that your oil is overfilled, due the gas in your oil...
 
Went to the auto parts store, had a run in with some wild life ;). Worked on some of the "smalls". :banana:

Noticed that I was riding incognito on the down-low Friday night, no tag lights. Talk about a :banana: job, I just rewired them back operational. Kept the single bullet connector near the harness and the double female bullet connector at the door, and spliced a green 18 ga wire between the two......Really no photo is necessary, but seeing is believing.

Good job. Had today to work on it but it was raining (no room in garage) so maybe I can get started sometime Monday. I did spend a couple hours each day during the week and wiped all of the cosmoline, primed with self etching primer and painted the springs. Probably a waste of time but hopefully delay the rust a bit.

Is that a Shelby cobra you have those springs next to? I sure hope there was no painting next to it!

Yup, that's my "other car" and painting was done outside. She can't sit in the rain while I work on something else in the garage. I guess I need to de-hoard and make some room in there.

I worried that might be the case. I put in a new one a year ago...I guess things do break.
 
Slowly making progress. Shims are in and Ubolt flip kit from 4 Plus is mocked up. Time to tighten everything and torque to spec.

Edit: and finished getting the rear done. Plan to start on the front tomorrow.

Found the issue with the H42... I must have removed the shifter when it was in gear.. After a long search I found the cure.

Had to pull back the far left shift lever/rail to get everything back to neutral... Reinstalled the shifter and shifts smooth as glass again..
