Installed my Smittybilt Console & Radio & Power Socket

I finished my install of my Smittybilt Console, Ham Radio with an added Power Socket. This gives me locking storage, and a nice spot for my 2M radio.

The cupholders are a plus too.

There was a lot more wiring and fab than I expected. The CCOT Console Holder was a big help, BUT.... I had to cut the back legs off and shorten them up.

Working on cleaning and re-installing the original cigarette lighter socket. Just tested the socket and it works great.

Took the doors apart on my 78. New OEM window regulator on the passenger door, cleaned and lubed the one in the passenger door. Now the windows go up and down easily!

Threw away the ugly door panels that a PO installed with goldish velour fuzzy texture and installed aftemarket door panels from SOR.

Last weekend, finally got around to having a new exhaust system made with 2 1/2 ID pipe and a magnaflow mufler. The truck feels like it accelerates better, but is still pretty quiet. I guess the 90 degree kink in the tail pipe was really making a difference!

Let me guess, coarse spline pinion, no traction bar?

Original drivetrain from T-case and back, so yes, if that's what was stock.

Is a traction bar the same as the anti-wrap (warp)? or something different?

Was almost at the top of the trail, passenger rear was up in the air and came down into a hole, and kapow! Was open diffs (will do a locker with new gears due to this). Had a great first day out up until this.

When the pinion blew it locked up the rear end totally, so we had to take out all the bits and pieces on the hillside. Drove down the hill with only front wheel drive and had it towed home.

Running fairly deep snow (12 - 18") with BFG 33x12.50x15 MTs I found 2200 rpm best with a 3B. Any less and I was liable to run out of torque, any more and the truck got squirrely. To travel at a different speed, pick a different low range gear. This was with the '79 which has a 3B and a 4-speed from an '82 BJ42 and 4:11 diffs.

The last week the truck ('83) has been parked again but I was using it as a daily driver for the previous 3 weeks because the car is broken. I think the steady driving did it good - after a week I was getting a lot more 5th gear driving going back and forth to work than when I started out.

Is that one of the "cumminscruiser" or overlandwerks seat frames? I'm debating picking one up from him and was thinking of using the same seats you have, it looks like you have the bar on the front for the sliders, is that the actual mounting position for the seats or are they going to be higher when done?

Yes, this is the kit fom Bill, I believe "cumminscruiser", no thats the height as positioned. You wouldn't want any higher due to steering wheel. Have the seat sliders from the older model Jeep, they are perfect. I will post another pic of the frame in position with custom stereo rack shortly.
BTW, seats are VERY comfortable, I was surprised actually

I did the knob refurb that so many on here have done. Cleaned the knobs up, then used a sharpie paint pen to fill in the letters, then scrubbed again. I can now see what everything is, even at night now.

The Boom

I've got a set of axles coming in this week (lockers yeah!) and they guy that I bought them from warned me that they are heavy and well need a way to get them off the truck. I'm always thinking of ways to use the truck and the winch and I saw somewhere on MUD a guy had put one of these together for moving wood.... Scrap metal laying around.... a couple of hours of free time..... welder sitting idle.....

wife thinks I'm totally nuts- but I/We have gotten used to that.

The frame is 2.5 meters long. The winch cable will run thru a snatch suspended at the end of the boom which will be raised and lowered with the come-a-long. The WLL of all the hardware will support 1 ton. But I'm sure that this will never see half of that.

I'll finish it up tomorrow.
