Nothing this week except for tonight’s Pizza run. It is just now getting cool enough to start driving it regularly and it seems to be running well.

@Green Bean That sign is fabulous ! Of course the truck is the winner !!!

EDIT: what year did the hand crank engine tool come to an end?

Thanks! Our daughter helped to make it, so it was a very fun project and cool to get to use it. They put us into the "Truck" category and there were plenty of very nice looking completely resto-mod trucks. The apple green one that was parked directly in back of us took first place in the "Truck" division and it was well-earned.

@Green Bean Well, you were robbed! Demand a recount…. I’m calling them tomorrow 😡

Frankly, this is so cool. Something I will be trying this fall when I can tolerate the weather better. Heat is a hard one, humidity is miserable day and cold is hard on me these days. Like Goldilocks…60* and low humidity is just right. I am going to have to make a sign as sweet as yours is. I tend to feel early FJ type land cruisers excluding the actual FJ are a rarity to the younger crowds at shows.

Spent the weekend in Galveston at the Moody Gardens Car Show. We had a great time and met a lot of really interesting folks. There were some spectacular cars and we were just glad to participate. Up to now, we had only attended a few local charity events.

I love that you included the vintage advertisements. As for the other "truck" winning, you should have demanded a "crawl off"!

A little longer shakedown run after ball and claw front knuckle rebuild, 4 wheel disc brakes / all new brake lines, and a re-wire. After tightening the ammeter connection and replacing the hose clamp on the heater line, I’m almost there. Without the side panel gasket leaking, the oil pan gasket has started to leak pretty badly. And my steering isn’t as nearly precise as it should be. Slowly but surely…

@65swb45 do you still have 3 bolt to 4 bolt master cylinder firewall adapters?View attachment 3720369
Have someone rock your steering side to side, till they hit resistance, while you look at all the joints in your steering linkage. Odds are good that the Bel crank is out of adjustment and it rocks side to side rather than rotating... if it has been loose for a long time it'll need parts to repair it.

Filled up for the first time since 2022. I had adjusted the carb so that it would idle reasonably well with the two year old gas. Under throttle it ran ok… but not as well as it should.

After pumping 120 litres of gas into it, the idle wasn’t quite right. After a quick adjustment of the carb it was running right again. I deliberately burned as much of the old gas as possible so that it wouldn’t taint the new gas.

A few weeks back I had to replace all 4 brake callipers, all the brake pads, Before that I needed to take the top off the carb and clean the jellied fuel out of it. Which is why we shouldn’t let our rigs sit for long periods of time. 🤷‍♂️

Sure do! Give me a shout on Tuesday. Answering machine is off until then.
I noticed that when I called on Friday! I've got clients in town most of the week, so if I can't get away for a few moments on Tuesday,

Thanks! Yes, mine moves fore and aft, and is the early style. I have a rebuild kit, but I’m not sure how long it’s been like this and if it’s damaged beyond repair or not.

Thinking about mirror options.
I like my mirrors on my 87 defender 90, not sure if they would look out of place on the FJ40 but we might give it a try.
Thank you @zerotreedelta for your stl file, I modified it slightly and grew it in Nylon 12, Glass Bead Filled (GF), Color: Black-Dyed. Super strong.

Also I had some switch pulls printed up for some possible light aux switches Thank you @EmanC for your file.

I’ll post update as we get moving on the mirror. Not sure about drilling my door or going stock?!

I've never seen one of the early ones in person...

Mine was really bad when I bought it in '91. at the time I tightened it up but it didn't help much. The kits I've seen for the newer style replace all the wear parts and make them good as new.
