I washed it today. I found the tailpipe coming loose, then putting it back in the garage noticed it wasn’t charging anymore. I have at least one frozen wheel cylinder. Little problems are starting to add up.
Sounds like it’s time to throw in the towel and get a different truck. Don’t worry, some fool will take it off your hands for pennies on the dollar.

I hate to see what's in store for me with FJ40 running the best it had since I purchased it. My son would borrow it when he was come up to our cabin on weekend we were there. In a few short weekends he some how destroyed a almost new clutch. Promised he would help me replace it. Can't remember exactly when but it was before 2005 when the plate expired. Plan is to get it back on the road in 2024 when it will be fifty since I bought it.

Replaced my fuel pump and remounted my gauge cluster. Now it won't turn over. Something to track down this week. New fuel pump was suppose to make it start again.
Did the connections to the ammeter get jostled when you remounted the gauge cluster? A brief arc? Fusible Link?

Won't turn over? Dead battery or starter.

Start by pulling the cluster back out to check for a short, make sure all connections are still solid, etc.

Got a 93 running after towing it home a couple months ago. After changing the radiator and hoses and thermostat, and trans cooler lines I did a couple shakedown runs. Then loaded up my kids and 3 friends and went to the beach. View attachment 3262792
Well happy to say this 80 is back on the road, seems reliable, and running pretty well. Have a check engine light to track down, and some ongoing baselining to get through. Only 149k mi. On her. Kind of low for 30 years old...

Need a new set of wheels that are simpler and of a style that I can happily Offroad on. These wheels aren’t really my style. Too fancy; maybe some Steelers, or some simple OEM alloys...

My wife is driving this 80 at this point since her LX470 is down while waiting for the ABS module replacement and some other overdue love. She is tolerating this 80 for now, though she has made clear the seats adjust better to her and are more comfortable in the 470, and she will be happy when her 100 series LX is done and back in action.

Highly recommend the black steel spare wheels from OEM.

So after about two + years of sitting of the fence I am starting to make provisions for a LM7 4L60E swap.
Other than taking the grill off, removing the radiator and taking out the aftermarket horn I installed last year.
I am starting into the high pressure fuel side of things. So Rusty has an auxiliary tank behind the rear axle which I will be using for the master tank. I bought a LM7 appropriate fuel pump which is ginormous by the way. Had to cut the bottom of the tank and weld on an extension sump so it would all fit. Got the box welded up and then welded onto the bottom side of tank. Got the pump loosely fit into place and pretty happy with the outcome.
Also positioned the tank into place to confirm clearances.
Also cut an access panel in the bed so the future replacement is simple(r). Going to hinge the front edge and weld in some tabs so that it rests is the same place.

I just picked up the same tank. I think I will use the tanks inc pump and an OEM sender to work with my factory gauges. Why shift it to the passenger side like that? Were there any baffles inside?

Replaced the coolant fluid today - thanks to this forum I picked up some great tipps in advance making the job a lot easier!!

Would anybody have a suggestion where I could get the plastic overflow tube that goes into the expansion reservoir?
