I shattered the front windshield trying to remove the rear view mirror mount :( The existing (not sure if it's factory or not) auto dimming mirror with compass is jacked up. About 3/4 of it is dimmed as if something hit it or the the internals separated. I found an exact replacement but the base is different (maybe almost exact then). No big deal... just remove the old windshield mount, glue another on, bingo... mirror replaced. Not exactly...

All you have to do is twist right? Um, no... it tore a chunk right out of the windshield and then about a 3' crack began to grow across and down. I have an appt. with Safelight on Tuesday...

The windshield was in good shape before I fixed it

Call Glass Doctor for a quote. Good news is that the mounting bracket comes installed on the new windshield.

Next time, just loosen the set screw on the mirror and slide the mirror up and off.

Swapped out my OME 865 rear springs for some Slee Off-road SOF2RH rear springs. So much happier with this set up. I can now actually hit speed bumps and dips without a care.

Yeah... that would've worked if the mount plates were the same. The old mirror was attached to a wide bracket with 2 phillips head sheet metal screws holding it on. Holding loosely. The mirror wasn't solidly attached in other words. The new mirror came with small a metal plate with guide channels on it (like every other mirror I've taken off has).

Yes it is. I'm in the middle of changing Diff Fluid (came in to read the FAQ) but when I'm done I'll snap a pic of it. Some of the windshield is still attached.

The original owner kept pretty good maintenance records. It wasn't quite time to change engine oil but I was under the LC changing differential fluid and I have a trip to Maine and back coming up in July so I changed the engine oil too.

The list for today (already mentioned destroying a perfectly good windshield)

1. Changed oil and filter. Grabbed an oil sample and I'll send that to Blackstone this week. Mobile 1 Synthetic. OEM oil filter.
2. Changed front and rear differential oil to Amsoil Severe Gear 75-100. I grabbed oil samples from both diffs.
3. The plan was to "change" the cabin air filters but there weren't any so I added them.
4. Almost forgot, I changed the fuel filter. 157, 800 and change on the original.
5. Took a K&N air filter out and replaced it with an OEM air filter.

I'll change the transfer case oil and grab a sample of that sometime this week. I'm going to use the same oil as the diffs in the transfer case.

I have a nice baseline for oil and filter changes now. I'm tempted to change the transmission fluid too but it was done not that long ago.

As I've already said the previous owner and original owner left me with good records but, I bought an '83 CJ7 about 10 years ago and did the same thing (changed all of the fluids so that knew what was in the vehicle) and both diffs had water in them. A lot of water... I figure changing the oil is cheap insurance and oil samples will tell me where I am today.

Did some electrical work today.

Switches to manually fire the rear LED cubes on the bumper, the two mounted on the roof rack, and turn on the two receptacles I added to the drawer system.

One is a standard 12v vehicle receptacle, the other is a dual USB for charging phones while camping.

Thanks to @cboyd for help with sourcing the switches.

Drove from Iowa to Missoula, Montana pulling a pop up camper and got a terrible around 10 MPG average. Not very happy about that. This is a beautiful area though. Heading to glacier Tuesday.

Drove from KC to Steamboat Springs for a bike ride event, then to Breckenridge. Tried a couple of trails coming out of SS but the majority are still closed.

I watched my mileage throughout the trip. What a difference on the last fill where my average speed was much less due to rural highway driving.

Added much needed rear springs to the 100 today. OME 865.
Rides as smooth as the factory springs without the sag.

Before and after pics?

Funny story (now). We are in Breckenridge and went for a hike with another couple. The other spouse did not want to walk with her wedding ring on due to hands swelling so she and my wife decided it would be a good idea to put the ring in the rear seat center console cup holder. After the hike, and the drive out they opened the cup holder and ....no ring.

Needless to say there was some panic. After about 30 minutes and finally figuring out how to take the rear console apart there was the ring laying on top of the a/c vent. Lucky!

Took my 05' LX to the Lexus spa (err. service dept) this morning for its 60k. I was so happy to hear from my wonderful service adviser "Roger" who informed me my water pump was leaking a bit and the timing belt was slightly frayed. So it is getting the full treatment, which will be a significant hit to my wallet. But having a 05' with only 57k on the clock with every single service up to date is reassuring and I should have my beauty for many more years to come.

Did I mention I get to take the LX shoe shopping later this summer too! I'll post a picture once the internal makeover is complete. They say beauty is what on the inside....right??

Finished up all of the oil changes with a quick transfer case oil change today.

I also had a new windshield put in. The mirror bracket that came on the windshield was the same as the one that I broke the windshield with. Apparently it's the standard Toyota bracket. :bang:

The mirror that I replaced was missing a lot of pieces which is why it wobbled. The new mirror that I ordered, with the "same part number" as the broken mirror, isn't the right part. It'll fit most GM vehicles. That's seems odd to me because you can't put anything on the internet unless it's true...

The glass guys had to do some extra work. Whoever put the last windshield in glued the side trim pieces in. Apparently they are supposed to be riveted in... The service manager said that it had probably had more than one windshield installed (so much for the Car Fax being worth anything). He also found some surface rust, sanded it, and primed it. I thought that was a nice touch.

I ordered an alleged genuine Toyota rearview mirror with compass so hopefully I'll be able to see backwards when I'm driving soon.

Well the Spa errr dealer convinced me to get new shoes too. I am going to have a monster bill tomorrow and the funny thing is I can't wait to pick her back up knowing that all the major maintenance is tip top. This must be a disease!

Added a set of Toyo Open Country AT2 in 285/75-16. Also, almost finished recovering my seats with Metric TLC leathers. Nice product and Shane is great to deal with. New to the forum and just started my build a couple of weeks ago.
