I've had that same issue with hardware, especially stainless. They get easily gummed up with nyloc nuts and seize solid, then the bolt ends up twisting and snapping. I'm not sure if it's due to the hardware quality or tightening the bolts too much, but I've had it happen multiple times. I've since switched to all-metal lock nuts and haven't had a problem since.
Anti-seize on all stainless fasteners, always.

Got back safe and mostly sound. 1842 miles, 30 days, 8 people, 1 large tent. Panguitch Balloon Fest, Bryce, Zion, Capitol Reef, Cedar Breaks, Sand Hollow, Sedona (Outlaw and Broken Arrow trails), White Pocket, Paw Hole, Burr Trail, Toquerville Falls, Little Wild Horse Canyon, etc, etc…and rescuing a couple in a 4Runner (3 hours of digging them out of a mudflow). Returned with the steering rack leaking much more than the usual 1 drop per drive, had the top rubber windshield seal come off, AHC continues to hate washboards and weight…Being a teacher doesn’t make me wealthy, but I am certainly rich!

Rolling 8 deep in that LC with all your gear is impressive! We did Rubicon this year with two dads and 4 boys with all our gear in an 80 and still had plenty of space. These rigs are awesome!

Earlier this summer my partner and I decided we needed to do more camping before the fire season on the West Coast got really bad. Laid out a plan to basically do a week long trip and then almost every weekend after until it wasn’t safe due to fire danger/air quality.

Before heading out I had a few projects I wanted to finish on the truck to get it ready. First up was installing a diff drop and some torsion bar reinforcement brackets from @Ironman 4x4 USA. Both went on like a piece of cake.

At the same time I decided to re-index the torsion bars and adjusted the height to better match the new springs. Next was taking it to the dealer to get one of the rear wheel bearings replaced and an alignment done. Happy to report it seems to have been fixed on the first try. Back in my hands it was time for some more interior work with switching out the old shift indicator plate, making some more progress on my custom drawers, and giving the interior a nice detail (which promptly got nice and dirty).

About two weeks ago we went on the week long trip up in the Sierras. Amazing time off-roading, swimming, and general camp shenanigans.

On the night of the 13th we saw some massive amounts of dry lightening which was spooky. The next day we learned this had sparked the Dixie Fire.

The rest of that trip finished fine and the next weekend was back up in Tahoe for more camping while I was working a motocross endurance race. The sheriff even brought out their off-road rig. Picture of my little sidekick to keep the pictures somewhat LC related.

This past weekend was back up in the Sierras for another weekend camping adventure. We were not as lucky this time and the trip ended up getting cut short after just one night when the wind changed and the air quality went from great to not real quick. Ended up driving back with everyone else.

Do you have a part number or good source for this latch? I need to replace mine too.

how in the world did you fit 8 people and all your gear in the LC?

EDIT: Pic below is just rocks my wife collected during the trip, and only the ones from the footwell. Tight squeeze- and small kids- though my two oldest are over 5’ and 4 totes on the back (about 200lbs)

Discount tire said these "hub caps" were fatigued and wouldn't properly go back on when I got new BFG's a couple months ago. eBay wants 10 greenbacks a piece for new ones - clearly that's not Scottish.

so a couple of passes (exactly 4) with fancy electrical tape and they fit like, well... um... like they're gonna stay on till they don't? Let's call it snug.

Bought a set of weathertech. I have been a very happy customer for almost a decade and buy a set for any car I get.

Thanks for sharing your awesome trip. You are definitely an inspiration for our family! Could you shed some light on your camping paraphernalia and seating arrangement in the truck? How do you carry food for so long? Perhaps even a separate thread?

I don’t know how to start a thread, but would consider it. Basics in a nutshell: We eat mostly canned/dry foods since they don’t need refrigeration. We have a small cheap cooler I’ve lined with a radiant barrier that keeps ice for 3 days in 100f+ heat and fits in the cargo area. Small white gas stove (22 oz bottle lasts for a week+), 6 gal water, small tool bag, 4-27gal totes: (1 food, 2 camping gear, 1 sleeping bags.) Gazelle double 8 person tent. My wife and I backpacked before kids so we like small, light, high quality gear.

Very helpful, this looks like it works well for you guys. I have been trying to prep myself for camping (never camped in my life) and I find this very inspiring.

Here's how to start a thread:
1. Go to 100 series forum: 100-Series Cruisers - https://forum.ih8mud.com/forums/100-series-cruisers.26/
2. Click "post a thread" on the top right corner:

3. Give it a title and contents:

Don't forget to tag me - that way I will get a notification about the new thread.

Ditched my center console arm rest cover that had 245k on it. thing was looking rough. Slapped on a new Lseat that was only 20 bucks shipped.
My latch for said upper console was also broken, and found a guy online that sells them from junk yards for like 15 bucks (rumor has it you cannot buy just the latch button for these...entire cover assembly must be purchased). so that worked out great.
