Was having some weird temp issues coming back from a camping trip.

Thanks to the think tank on the site I decided to replace the thermostat and radiator cap first.

@Newps, thanks for your great write up. Got the new thermostat installed in about half an hour.

burped the system and took it for a test drive. 110 outside with both air conditioners blasting and the temp didn’t fluctuate on the gauge or my obd reader.

Thinking I might need a new fan clutch though.
I just picked up an Aisin fan clutch on RockAuto for $73+shipping. Seems be working well so far.

Replaced my heater T's tonight. I'm glad I did. Both were falling apart to some degree. The driver side was in really bad shape. As everyone else has said, do not try to gauge their condition based on what you can see with everything clamped up.

I replaced all the hoses and clamps too, all OEM stuff including the T's. All the hoses seemed fine, but it will be nice knowing it has new ones now.

This is a 2004 Land Cruiser with 166,300 miles. As far as I know, heater T's had never been replaced.

I was able to do this with just some regular pliers, but it sure was a pain. My biggest problem was the clamps being rotated in basically the worst possible positions. However, after doing it once now, I think I could do it again in 20 minutes, especially since I put the new clamps in better spots.

I think I kept most of the broken pieces out of the system, but it is very possible some slipped by. I wasn't too careful about which hoses/clamps I removed first, but now I know for next time.

Today I also installed new wipers. I wanted to try silicone wipers, and the Rain-X ones were the only ones in stock in my area, so I got those (overpriced I know). Clayed the windows and put down some Rain-X too. Been needing to do this for months now.

Replaced the cabin air filters. It seems newer Lexus have a carbon cabin filter available, but there isn’t on for the 2004 LX. So I tried these. Seem to be of good quality.

Does anyone know what the item is that is on a retracting cord? Where does it attach? It seems it should be connected to something but I have no idea. I see it every time I open up the lower dash to replace the filters.

It clips onto the driver side of the glove box door. It is like a shock absorber so the glove box drops and retracts slowly and easily.

damn. That was easy. I could never find it because I always looked with the glovebox sitting elsewhere. Lol

Removed the black plasti-dip from my grille and upgraded to super-fancy: satin black spray paint.

Getting the plasti-dip off was a PITA, even with liberal coatings of goo gone—wishing I’d just gone straight to paint instead of futzing around with removable options...

Looks good! I would have had very limited patience for goo gone before ordering a $40 carparts.com replacement.

I threw 55w 5k HIDS in and figured they would look fine. Everyone on here was overdramatizing how mediocre the stock projectors are with HID bulbs.... Welp i was wrong, i installed them before a big trip, 1400miles later and i have to agree that the stock projectors suck, i mean at least i look the part rollin with some real lumens but the cutoff is non existent. Dont get me wrong, hids in stock projectors are better than oem bulbs but no where near where they should be with stock projectors

Is this what is rattling underneath ??? I pushed something under there when it was idling recently and it went silent.

This is what is rattling, they all do, hardware rusted out completely on mine

Put some strain on the AHC and engine by towing this:

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5403.jpg

My buddy's 4Runner broke a sway bar link which shredded his CV boot and before we could get back to pavement and away from further insults the CV itself grenaded. Was in 2WD for a while then eventually the not so intelligent electronic nannies handling the center diff gave up and he was completely without a drivetrain. The AHC was riding low, but the truck did a great job pulling overall.

Edit: I also think I should maybe just leave my wheels perfectly mud colored forever. Maybe spray some clear coat right over it?

So isntalled this, had to modify the head unit bracket and drill new top DIN screw holes forward 3cm so the LCD would sit flush.

Also, dropped the LCD one level to hide the underneath perfectly (could see open bottom DIN). Might take some more videos later.

I just washed off 3000+ miles of bug splat on the drive from OR to FL. Amen for keeping up on the good waxes .... they came off like buttah.

Next up is yet another oil+filter change and thermostat replacement. She runs a bit hot compared to spec according to Torque.

More info on that head unit please.
