Why power steering fluid? Our trucks take dexron

Hydraulic/power steering fluid works just fine and is what came from the factory. ATF is the specified replenishment, it works, but have found that Hydraulic/power steering fluid performs better. The best we have found is Mobil DTE Light, a high end hydraulic fluid.

In a pinch wouldn’t that work as engine oil as well? I’ve heard of peeps only carrying one “oil” as universal for engine, power steering, and trans...

My kit has some stuff for rigs I find broken down on trail ahead of me plus it will work in a pich. I carry every type of fuse for the same thing.

... so there goes another 3 months and $3k in stuff needed. This $2500 truck is getting rather spendy. Luckily, I can't see going anywhere solo for quite a while and the guys in the local group are very well prepared.

These kits seem to change a lot over time I am sure I will ad more stuff but I will delete others. Still learning what I need to have. That is why I posted this thread.

Happy to report, after reading this thread, I am sane. Happy I did not purchase a Jeep. Got me a Toyota so I don't have to carry all that stuff with me. Back to kitty pictures.

I guess? All these kits wouldn't even fit in the back of my jeep...

Trans fluid will work anywhere oil or lube is needed.

@BerettaMato - That's an impressive kit you've assembled but I'm curious about why you feel you need a case of oil.
I can patch a oil pan if it gets hit but I can not siphon oil out of the dirt.

Along with all those great items everyone else listed, I always carry a small kit for the repair, and recovery of myself too. Alot of us go out for just day trips on the trail, but You never know, you might be stuck longer then an afternoon. So I carry 6 bags of Mountain House Freeze dried food, coffee, water, rocket stove, and small cooking set. This is enough food to last my wife and I for 2 days. Nothing worse then waking up in the morning trying to repair your truck, without a little food, and that first cup of coffee.

Spare axle assemblies.
I just hold an oil filler cap in my outstretched arm and then I signal for @cruiserdan to bring a brand new truck out while I hold the cap steady so that I can just have him drive the new truck into place and then all I have to do is tighten the cap. It's pretty slick system, really.

Something to consider, anyway...it cuts way down on all of these other hassles.
