And neither get as good of mpg.

e500? I looked at those for my wife, but couldnt get myself to go German b/c of maintinence, maybe its just a mindset?

E320

It is just a mind set. It's no different working on this than any Toyota I have ever had. I plan to do the 12 spark plugs myself, drain the tranny and filter, and do all my own oil changes. The dealer will rape you. They never touched my Yotas and they won't touch this either. The only issue is the need for premium fuel, but the oil only gets changed every 10k or 12 months. They require Mobil Synth. Which is what I always used any way. Use the MB fleece oil filters for $12 and your set.

WOW...never saw you as a station wagon kind of guy. Enjoy....

With 2 babies and my older age I realize that a car is just a tool to get the job done. My family and my safety is more important than daddy looking cool.

In his defence it is an estate car, not a station wagon... Kind of like an Audi A4 Avant, or the BMW 335i Touring...

Little different than those Jay but I respect the wagon, then again just a few years ago I had a '63 wagon. ;)

So I got my 255 km2s mounted up last night. Hope to get the alignment today or tonight. It looks so much better with the 255s. No pics but if you guys want I can go out and take a few pics. :bounce:

Ok, this is a tech forum, if you wish to continue the conversation take it to chat, and I mean Mud chat not UC chat. Any one with problems please feel free to contact me via pm, e-mail or phone. This issue is closed as far as I am concerned.

Come to think of it I dont think I have ever seen any of your install pics. :) It got dark on me so I couldnt take pics of the rear.

On a side note for you Steve: There is a Rover guy who works adjunct in Automotive here at Tech, they are doind a deisel swap on a Range Rover. I can get pics for you if you really need me to as I know you love some rovers ;) Funny thing is that he says he has plently of business and thats why he specializes in those brands.

What do you mean if we want pics? We expect them!

If time permits, the 100 gets new shocks this weekend!:bounce:

I hope so, they look really close with my lift, but it hasnt been aligned yet. What 255s are you running? Any pics of them on your 80?

285s are just too heavy, I am seriously considering going back to 265s on the 80, may even lower it back down to stock. If I could get a buyer for our 285 MTRs then I might go ahead and bite the bullet, especially once I get taxes back.

Looks good, as soon as the wife's 4Runner burns out the XREAS shocks i'm gonna do an old man emu (if we still own it)

I pulled the head off the motor in the 81 60 only to find....

the rebuilder the PO hired, installed the head gasket backwards thus starving the valve trane for oil..... good thing the gas tank started leaking a few miles from that guys shop. Which forced the PO to pull over and have it towed, since no oil ever got to the top end. I am having that head checked now to make sure it is okay to install in the Mauve 87.

There is a score in the first cylinder,, just barely enough to catch your finger nail. I am guessing the motor dropped a valve before the PO got it rebuilt. But for the life of me I cannot figure out why, if you are rebuilding a motor you would not bore out the cylinder to remove the score, the pistons read ".50mm" so there is plenty of material to take out another .1 mm...

So I am going to take this to my trusted machine shop to get an opinion..

If no one wants the frame (with the rusted rear cross member, from the 81 I am going to make another motor cradle, and anyone from the club, that wants to pick it up can borrow it.

The head in the Mauve 87 was cracked and warped. The crack was between the intake and exhaust valves of cylinder 1, I am guessing that PO's son poured water in the valve cover to cool the engine.
87 is getting a new radiator and thermostat...

Did I mention I found 2 "barn 40's" local to me. IIRC one is a 71 (the current owners bought when they got married) and a 76 a pilot owns (she has 3 planes she is working on..so I hope she takes my offer) Both are completely STOCK, one is outside in a driveway the other is literally in a barn. Both owners are customers and I am supposed to have first dibs on them if they decide to sell......since I am the local Land Cruiser Nut...

Dang son... You are gonna turn into the local cruiser hoarder, kind of like that guy in Athens, Cruiser Ray... He always had 5-6 cruisers with a ton of parts laying around. At least we'll know where to go if we are looking for something
