Looks awesome, Rick!!! YOu didn't weld a plate over the chop? Aren't you afraid that the wheels might catch if stuffed?

Not likely - all the sharp bits are well out of reach. The wheels are pretty much stuffed in these pictures, so they will rub much higher in the wheel well before ever coming close to the body mount at this point. Capping them might eventually happen, but only as an aesthestic upgrade since the mounts are still plenty beefy as I left them.

I took a BFH to the rear wheel wells this afternoon and made the rear of the well a bit roomier

Guy in our club that is a big cruiser head...Sherman62...his 62 is on final leg and we worked out a good deal for both. Plus I got first dibs if he changes his mind later.

This week: Put on new tires on the 100 series...new floor mats...and took apart steering column to try and see if it was something simple with tilt control. I was going with KM2 again but got a great deal on the Nitto Trail Grapplers and loved the way my Terra Grapplers worked and these are twice the tire...so looks like they could only get better!!

Tomorrow, SLEE SLIDERS go on her! Then to save up for either Baja rack or one of the bumpers in few months.

Also mounted cargo tie-down tracks in the back of Bertha, so she can haul all the GSMTR boxes we had piling up in our apt. The unfortunate part is that we can't get her rear glass to go back up So we're packing a couple extra tarps to keep stuff dry inside should it decide to rain on the way up tomorrow.

Will be replacing fuel pump, sock, filter, and charcoal canister this time, as well as a new gas cap. Gonna try and get a new emergency brake cable in as well while the tank is out. Tomorrow should be plugs, wires, TB cleaning if today goes well.

blech..... this job never gets any more fun. Tough day when you chose to wrench in the gravel b/c its cooler than the asphalt.

3 tanks + 2 repairs = 5 installs

JB weld lasted the longest at 9 mos. Real weld lasted 3 weeks. This time im using a fiberglass cloth patch and resin. We shall see.

Figure out what's causing the cracks? My Pig's tank was awfully bloated out - due to (I think) pressure build up. Found the offending valve, pulled it out, and no more pressure.

But your pig has a carb... shouldn't build up much pressure...if any.

Put on tires, weathertech floor mats, removed running boards, cleaned throughout, installed rock sliders!!!

where are the cracks?
what vehicle is this for?

have you thought about finding a newer tank from a different vehicle cruiser or not? I know a mazda rx7 tank fits in between the frame rails of a 40 and if this is for your 55 it might work, what about a 60 series tank?

if the cracks are on the seam you might want to try solder, it might flow better, I have made some watertight solder joints on butting copper, not pretty but it works

what about a metal patch, cutting out the old section, are the cracks always in the same place>

Its been JB welded, welded, soldered, mastic barred and now fiberglassed. Next is mighty putty
I thought about the patch but such a funky shape and I'd likely burn through trying that much welding vs the beads I laid over the crack.

Steve- I've replaced the gas cap and tank vent cap as well as all soft lines and blown air through the hard lines to confirm they are clear. Now new charcoal canister and sock filter plus fuel filter so not sure what component could be left.

went with a buddy over to the powerlines near Berea Middle and drove her though a puddle that came up to my doors...want her covered in mud for the road trip this thur. (stock sagging springs on 31"s...not that deep to come up to my doors)

My problem was with a check valve near the vapor/fuel separator. It wouldn't vent fast enough - but it does now (b/c its not there anymore).

I'm researching dual battery kits. I'm going to install one on the Pig on the 21st of June. I'm leaning towards the National Luna kit b/c its high quality and I've heard great things about - any suggestions are welcome - I want one that I don't have to manually switch.

I researched those thoroughly a while back and my first choice would be the Luna. I don't know if I would spring for the diagnostic monitor though.

If I was on a budget, the painless setup from Summit would be next. Kend of 2 different systems though.

I've had the national luna in the wifes 80 for a year now; it worked fantastic on our trip out west last summer. It was a great feature to have with the ARB fridge we were using as I never had to worry about leaving the cruiser sitting for a couple of days. The kit was def. of a high quality and very easy to install and once it is set-up you don't have to do anything else as it manages itself..... HTH

JP - I think I'll go with the National Luna then. Now I need to figure out what type of fuse box to use (any suggestions- I've been told to look at Blue Sea) and I might I stall an inverter while I'm in there (any suggestions there too)?
