Moved it under its own power for the first time in over 2 years, now with completed Saginaw power steering. GSMTR prep is under way... I’ll probably start with a good power washing.

The benefit of buying a complete junkyard axle is having extra shaft/hub assemblies. When I got this '12 axle I removed the shafts and put my old ones in it to get the last life out of these bearings and not have to buy new rotors. The late model hubs are 1-2mm bigger and so the older rotors don't fit. Everything else is a direct fit. It's kinda dumb the way they unnecessarily designed it that way, but I went ahead and got new rotors and fresh hub seals so I could use the '12 shaft/hub. Driver side has been whining since our trip out west. So I took care of it this weekend. I'll do the passenger side in a couple weeks. Oil change and lubed all the things. Put skids back on - honestly the hardest thing I did all day.

Pulled the camper and kids to Sadlers Creek State Park with the 60. Truck was slow but steady, right lane only. But still able to pull at (corrected) 60mph, except for the hills on 85.

We had a good time and stayed surprisingly dry given the hurricane moving through.

Added a frankenstein lift, new tires and rims to the 40. Instead of buying a kit i tried to piece together what I think is some of the best parts.

Hell Creek 2.5" springs
Bilstien 5100 shocks
HFS 1.5" shakles
New powder coated 15" steelies and hub caps
5 new 33-10.5-15 General Grabbers X3's
1.25 wheel spacers.
OME Steering Damper

Within the last couple of weeks I got the 4x4Labs bumper installed, redesigned/rebuilt my on-board-air tank mounting system, installed a 3" exhaust system and I painted the front bumper

Nicely done! Looks like someone may have vomited on your spare tire...

In a final bout of self torture, I swapped sliders. The Slees work for steps better and the kids ride the LX more, and the WKs offer better protection for the wheeler (cat skids for one thing). The plastic LX trim was a bigger variable than anticipated and the swap works much better now for both. Makes the stock height LX seem shorter now though, maybe time for a lift too. 😆

Enough wrench crap, took the family up the hill for a Christmas Tree Run scout. Considered going to a nearby trailhead for a hike after getting the trees but wanted to check the trail first. On one side of the road is a 3.2 mile out and back along the Appalachian Trail to Roan High Knob, and the other is a much shorter Max Patch like bald. We did the longer hike and raced sunset due to a wedding on the bald. Nice area, but crowded during the visit and maybe too physical for a group event.

When I serviced my entire cooling system, I only had 1 Toyota O-ring for the water neck on top of the thermostat housing. I used 2 generic ones that lasted less than 2 years. Now it’s fixed right.
