Beauty. What bags you going with on this?

Or party hauling pals to your sunset spot?

Mountain Laurel makes bags specifically for this rack.

Or, generic carry-all types of cages mounted to the sides. Really depends on trip goals…. Someplace like DV or SoUT will get big Nalgenes hauled on the sides. Desert trips where I need more water and less stuff. I can carry a lot of shît over the rear wheel touring.

New custom frame bags for my off-road Squid Gravtron from my friend Peta @okie Dokie bags…. Came out fũcking rad:

Working on finishing up my winter bike projects. Even though I’m still probably 8-10 weeks out before it’s even close to possible to ride the MTBs.

For my Sumpy EVO, new carbon wheels from Noble with Hope pro 5 hubs, new 2.6 in tires (from the crappy 2.35’s that came on it, the brown sidewall version were 40% off). I got rid of the mavens that came on it (short version, they have a ton of power but also require a ton of effort to pull…) replaced them with code ultimates. I highly debated going back to mechanical X01 from the GX axs that came on it, decided to hold off hoping for mechanical transmission, but I did swap to the axis control paddle that has a more traditional feel/look.

My daughters Salsa rustler got a new drivetrain (XT cassette/chain/shifter, SLX derailleur).

For my wife’s trance I found this really cool seat post adapter to make the seat tube angle steeper and more modern.

did a little wrenching.
got new bars for the gravel bike (Ritchey WCS) and re-plumbed brake lines moto style. I got tired of using the crappy plastic bleed blocks so I made a set for Shimano. Still need to make a set for SRAM.

After doing 3 brake swaps and a rear derailleur cable housing, and yes I have all the appropriate Park tools. I am still sure internal cable routing is the worst thing the bike industry has done since I’ve been an avid cyclist, so the last ~45 years. 2nd worst is putting batteries (shifting, dropper, now suspension,…) on non-e-bikes.

I was having hand/wrist problems and it went away when I went back to a narrower bar width (740 from 790).
Yes, I never quite understood the trend towards ridiculously wide bars on mountain bikes. I had a friend stop by one time on his new ~20lb mtb and his bars were wider than the bars on my 500lb adventure motorcycle.... One just doesn't need that amount of mechanical advantage on a light bike. I completely get the wider stance for those who need this for ergonomics.

This is what happens when a few "pros" use something. People who think they ride as hard or as fast think they need the same stuff. Wide bars/35mm bars are a waste for the average rider. Just like riding a 200mm travel bike is a waste.

Yes-I know some people really do need 800+mm bars. But the average person isn't 200cm tall. I deal with a lot of ultralight hiking and backing stuff for my work. And the same problem exists there too. A very small selection of people are comfortable with a sub 10lb base weight. But, since people see those very few people doing-they all think need to the the same way. When in fact the average day or multiday hiker is going to hate how minimalistic their setup has to be for that to happen.
