I finally got everything buttoned back up and started it after five months! Drove it around the block and back to the house. Tightened the oil pan bolts and a bolt on the timing cover that's leaking. And then I blew my manifold gasket.... :poop: :bang::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:
Wha?!!! Your at least number two I’ve seen say this. What the heck?

My guess is that the heat shield gaskets were already leaky. I was reading it as a leak in the exhaust pipe gasket. It's just above that. But the biggest leak came from the area in the back of the engine bay by the firewall. I mistakenly buggered up the gasket while trying to remove that back bolt for the air rail. Also, pb blaster and wd40 likely worked its way in there and caused a major leak. I haven't torn into it yet. Of course it's raining all day and like -4,000 degrees today. I'm gonna start drinking at 9am this wonderful Sunday morning.

Looking forward to seeing a sneak peek of the 60 series rear bumpers...!

I'm hoping to have the rear available Nov 16th along with the new front.

Nice to see you back in the shop Jason.

L, I got back Thursday night and couldn't sleep so went to the shop and cleaned up and started making things to keep my mind off other things. Andrea is still in CT so the next few days will be fast and unscheduled for shop work.

Took a fall foliage trip. Started in Raton NM. Took FSR 1950 into Carson NF. Started seeing aspens around Cimarron CG. Stayed on FSR1950 through Valle Vidal. FSR 1950 eventually runs along Costilla Creek and thru its canyon. It eventually turns into NM 196 around Amalia and then intersects NM 552 at Costilla.

A lot of aspens all along the route. Costilla canyon has outstanding scenery and in its lower end the cottonwoods were as gold as the aspens.

Took NM 552 to Questa then NM 38 to Red River and Eagle Nest where we got on US 64 to complete the loop back to Raton.

Had a fine time. Drove 229 miles, took 6 hours.

Glad you guys finally had a chance to explore that area. Did you happen to visit the St James in Cimarron ? They have an excellent restaurant and the history of the place is really cool.

We are impressed with the area and need to spend more time poking around over there. A couple of weeks ago we tried to take county road 204 (just outside Cimarron) thru Philmont Scout Ranch up to Carson NF but were stopped by a new gate in a state wildlife area.

We had lunch at the St James a few months ago and many thanks for the recommendation. Great restaurant and for a history buff like me the hotel, the town and the whole area is a treat. I just finished a history book called 'It Happened in the Cimarron Country' by Zimmer and Lewis. Gives me reasons to go exploring looking for things mentioned in the book.

sidebar note: I regret not linking up with you last weekend. The tournament just flat wore us out.

Finally got time to work on winch control relocation bracket.

Used the holes/bolts for the fuel filter on the inner fender, with a brace strap the lip on the fire wall.

No sweat Jim. I know those things can be taxing on time.
If you look at the old guest register at the St James, many famous people of the old west have stayed there. Notably the Earps on their way to Tombstone. Very cool place for sure.

Since the Military was so nice and gave us a 4 day weekend, i had plenty of time to work on the 60. First replaced the clutch MC/ Slave cylinder. Then i did the 4 Runner brake booster upgrade, wow, what a difference! After all repairs were done camping was in order. Found a nice little hidden Gem, stayed only one night since its still so damn hot down here in Mississippi still. More camping to follow!

I did something very stupid and in my defense it was a week after major back surgery while on Dilaudid and muscle retaxers.
Prior to surgery my GF and I drove to WA and back home to SOCAL, then a 5 day trip to Mammoth lake.
So, time for an oil change right? Maybe not so wise a week after surgery.

I crawled under my 60 which I’ve owned since 04 and have always completed the fluid maintenance myself, with ratchet in hand i rolled under the 60 only to realize it’s a 10mm hex fitting. ( should have been the first alarm to sound off in my cotton filled brain housing group)

I retreved the 10mm, drained the oil, punctured the oil filter and opened the oil fill cap. Replaced new oil filter, replaced oil drain plug, filled engine with close to 8qt of 15w40. Checked oil and it seemed higher than usual on the dip stick. That should have been the 2nd clue, (but obviously not)
The truck sat for almost a week before I’d drive it again which was this past Friday.
Drove it about one mile and smoke was pouring out of the tail pipe as if I was conducting a beach insertion in an Amphibious Assult Vehicle on Red Beach. WTF?
I immediately returned home to investigate what I had to have done a week prior.

I crawled under my truck once again and stared up at the hex key plug I had removed and drained. Then I looked over my left shoulder towards the front of the 60. F+*#k!!!! Thank the powers that be I only drove 2 miles.
I had drained the H55h, not the engine oil. In the Didauded induced haze, I had added 100% more engine oil than there is supposed to be.
I immediately drained the engine oil pan ( the correct drain plug this time).
While it was draining, I pumped 4.7 qt of 80/90 into the transmission.
reinstalled oil pan drain plug and poured 7qt of 15w 40 into the engine. It’s been sitting since Friday so I’ll go out today and check levels and add more 15w40 until it’s correct.
So now I wonder how long it will take to blow out all the oil that’s in my exhaust pipe.

There is no oil leaking from anywhere. Not from any gaskets,or seals that I can see.
Being I only drove 2 miles, is there anything I should be looking out for?

Not to self, don’t work on truck when on pain meds.

IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful. I’d live there. What’s a 100 acres go for? Looks like you cut down some of the trees and lashed them to your roof rack.
