Very Cool Island! Wish i could get an old 45 like that. Would like one to be my next project, unfortunately for the money those things are going for, it'll probably ended up being an old Willys truck instead :(
It's curious how values change from country to country. Not that it will help you, but there quite few 45s here for not much money. All flat decks though haven't seen any wellsides.

45's are pretty rare here in the U.S. Let alone most are nearly all rusted out. If i were to get one i would want it to be a wellside (truck box) short bed. One lucky thing you Aussies have over us is the bountifulness of landcruisers!

Onemanarmy,

My guess, M37 or Power Wagon

Right on the money. 1958 M37. SSLLLLOOOWWWW work is being done, dismantling for sand blast now.

My 55 is a good 20 footer. It has bondo and has been spray painted white and sail blue (rustoleum), It left the factory smurf blue/white.

The rack is a setup from NRS. It was cheap enough, and the tall feet don't look bad and go with the 55's proportions.

Sorry, no plans to restore this pig. It is just too rusty for my liking. The fj45 in that photo was my first one, back in the mid 90's. Sold it during a divorce, then in 2007 or so I bought a really nice one from Show-Low AZ. No engine or tranny but DRY as a bone sitting 26 years. This later 45 I upgraded with '76 drivetrain, all toyota. Anyhow, If I get a hankerin' to do a 55, I will search for a dry, less rusty body. The 45 cost 900 bucks to get hauled to Washington, and that's money very well spent. I hope to put a different body on this '79 fj55, but at this point it isn't a toyota. I have a Model A ford cowl and nose. Maybe a woody wagon, as I'm a 42 year career custom woodworker running my own business for 34 years, and certified ford truck wacko. The back half will never rust.....

Thanks for the rack info. I do like the proportions too.

I made some modifications in an attempt to get the tailgate somewhat functional. The stock license plate lights were very crumbly, tailgate handle was broken. Sadly the window motor was full of water and very corroded, I disassembled and cleaned but no luck. Going to block the glass up with wood until I can figure something out.

Kenny,

How about building a lift up hatch for the window. That way, the tailgate could be used without the glass getting in the way. Our old Willy Wagons had them and it worked well. Couple of guys have them on the 55s, my opinion, they should've come that way.
