Sold my FJ40 last week, but kept my old rims that I love (ATX Mojave Teflon) and put on some new tires; now on the BJ70

Hello,

I could not log on until today.

Last Sunday I lubricated the A/C fan, checked tyre pressure and sprayed WD-40 in the engine bay.

Eventually got around to putting in int/ext temp display on dash, as it was 12v display I had to power via converter., bench-tested prior to installing to understand what was what with the guidance of mudder Sved, thanks mate, had to get new new cables and one thermistor, had to drill 2 holes in dash frame, pod has 4 bolts, dash had the front 2 holes already there, and cut triangle with grinder in order to allow socket/ connectors to sit above radio. Just went for test drive and no issues, we will se in 12 months if my handy work has been a success.
Next job is fitting an original bogaard turbo timer gold box with toggle switch, happy days for Oldtoy.

Pulled a bit of a prang out of my BJ74's rear bumper by chaining it and pulling on it with my tacoma….

I started down the process of upgrading the taillights in my Kaymar rear bar.

The original lights were the toyota troopcarrier bumper mounted lights (used in australia in conjunction with blanked out taillights in the rear quarter panels to meet an Australian Design Rule requirement) which I'm replacing with LED Autolamps 135mm wide units, one LED Autolamps #135ARM combination stop/tail and indicator and one LED Autolamps #135WM reverse light per side. Although in the photo are the LED autolamps front indicators from my ARB bullbar because I forgot to take the new lights with me.

By sheer luck, the vertical height of the cut-out was exactly right to suit the new lights (78mm) so I just needed an oddly shaped filler piece in one end, made out of 8mm plate to match the kaymar's main body thickness.

This got welded in, ground back and I even attempted to freehand out the radius in the corners with the die-grinder to match the existing parts. Then fabbed up some mounting brackets from cut-down pieces of 25x25x2.5mm angle and welded them in, a bit of a linish, some black paint and time to get started on a sub-loom for the new lights and the trailer plug.

Started on getting the wiring for my trailer plug and the lights in my kaymar rear bar sorted. First thing to do was to work out where the logical place to pull power from.

Hot tip for everyone who comes after this, on the rear body loom, tucked up to the left of the fuel tank are a two pin socket and a three pin socket. The two pin socket has a matching two pin plug plugged into it and has the left and right indicator power, the three pin plug was empty (well, full of mud actually) and exposes the tail, brake light and reverse power. Immediately adjacent is the main rear body earth point, so with $10 worth of plugs, it'll be a piece of piss to make an entirely plug-in trailer and rear bumper sub-loom.

This only makes me more angry for the awful abortion of scotchlocks that came on my bj74 when I got it and had resulted in the rear loom chafing 1/4 the way through resulting in no left indicator and a brake light fuse which would blow at random.

Also wired up my cheap ebay 4" 55w HID driving lights, their wiring is only temporary while I wait for my mate to bring me some cooper bussman relay boxes back from the states. The cheapy ebay lights seem pretty reasonable given they only cost me AUD$56. They're a 'euro beam' and give a pretty reasonable mix between throw up the road and spread across it. Nicely complement my 2 x 10" aurora single row light bars and my 70w H4 hi/lo converted headlights. I am a little tempted to fit another 2 of the ebay 4" lights although more for aesthetic rather than lighting performance reasons.

Started an onboard air project. Using a mystery compressor found at a swap meet and some misc pieces sitting around. Plan is to tap the sliders as air tanks and have front/rear air chucks.

Just found this thread. Lots of good info on stuff i want to do to mine soon. Turbo timer switch wiring air compressor etc.

Drove it to the local shooting emporium, then to the local beer store. All in all, a good day.

Until I saw Ward's cruiser porn ;)

I bought a super cheap LED light bar off Amazon to see if I liked how it looked on the front of the truck. I can't decide… Any votes? tell me the truth!

I say keep it, but my style is questionable. And the little spots below - how do they work, from where did you source them?

I also installed my mag lite on the driver side seat slider. Look closely to see the extension bracket built by @Cruisin' so that my 6'2" tall self could actually drive the truck!

I really like that wheel and tire combo. Which wheels are you running? I assume the 295/75/16 BFG AT in you sig is the tire...

Thanks!
