Did you install your own cam bearings?

I have admired your build thread for months. 2 thoughts popped into my mind . Did you media blast any engine components and an unrelated thought, did you shim the mains? I would expect it to be a rotating problem more likely than a piston clearance issue.

I only media blasted the tin, and it got thoroughly cleaned afterward. I used brushes to clean out the oil galleys when I got the block back from the machine shop after they hot tanked it. Since I had what appears to have been a debris problem the first time, I am thinking that maybe I missed something in the oil galleys. It sucks having to tear this thing apart again when it is so close to drive-able!

Yes. I have the proper installer, the oil holes all lined up, and the cam spun freely.

Wow. Well, it was just a WAG, sorta based on an engine I took apart, years ago. I think it's time to start taking your engine apart, until it spins again...

Did you put in the shims on the main bearings, very important on a 1F, ask me how I know. An engine rebuilder, that sucks!!! said mine were on the tight side of spec, but okay, either way, we ran it about an hour, she seized hard, it stripped all the babbit off the mains. Your oil filter and oil pan may be full of silver sludge.

Okay, so the no.1 rod bearing seized. It was bone dry, with no sign of burned oil. I am thinking that my reman crank has a plugged oil passage. Everything else looks great so far, but the engine is coming back out and getting completely torn down and inspected. I will see if a machine shop can save my crank. :frown: If not, I'll have to track down another one.

Sorry if I sounded defensive, that was not my intention. I was just trying to be thorough. I appreciate the help.

Wow. I will be following this as another informative thread. Sorry you have had this bad misfortune but keep posting so that others can learn from it. Then, it will not be completely worthless. Keep building the dream and you'll have her back on the road shortly.

I am getting ready to start an f engine rebuild. Engine block machined and crank turned, do you have any tips after your experience?
