Saturday a friend helped me finally figure out why my brakes were so soft. The culprit was a single leaking flare nut. A turn of a wrench and some bleeding and I finally have solid brakes again! While we were at It we serviced the rear brakes and got my parking brake mechanisms working again. I thought it was working, but the lever that the cable pulls on was frozen on one side and just about frozen on the other. It is highly likely that only one was working for the past few years.

My rear suspension looked like it was coming loose so we took a look at that as well. Turns out it was fine and just need the helper spring reset. I found that out after I started loosening the U-bolts on one side. Those U-bolts got twisted and won't torque back down, so now I need to replace them... If it's not one thing its another. On the plus side my locking hubs now turn easily for the first time in the almost 8 years I've owned the truck!

Everyone's been busy with projects, I figured I would add and update.

Previously, I posted about bringing my brother-in-laws '08 RX350 back to life. Well if made it about two weeks before suffering a similar accident as my husband's '05 Rav4 suffered but more damaging, totaling it out. I've since written it off as a short chapter I'd not like to remember. I've sold my '98 ES300 and we've acquired an '10 Rav4 V6 for my husband:

I had a '98 ES300 that I sold to a coworker in need and am back in the Tundra as a daily but hopefully not for much longer. Made major progress on the '05 Rav4 resurrection and it should be ready to roll by next week.
I got it mostly back together Sunday, was still missing the front bumper and found it had a power steering leak that I thought was the rack but was actually a bad clamp.

Then this past Monday I headed up to Harry's for the 5th time for this project and scored the final pieces of the puzzle plus a little extra in the form of almost brand new headlights!

The last things I am waiting for now are a hood release cable and clips to mount the front fender flares back on, then I just need to put it back on insurance and get the tag that I put in retention back and then I have at least till December to get it inspected again!

I've also recently changed a couple things in the Tundra, the steering wheel was starting to peel enough that after every time I drove it I would have little black leather flakes on my hand, and the shifter lever was becoming so badly cracked I could cut myself, so they got switched and upgraded:

Broken U bolts out, new u bolts in. The plasma cutter makes quick work of cutting. I finally got my 60 up to my house after it was sitting all summer. It made the hour drive with zero issues even after sitting for 6 months. The only thing left to do is get plates and registration in PA! For legal reasons I must state that it definitely had a license plate on it for the drive...

I've been working on restoring a piece of shop equipment. It has some missing pieces I intend to recreate, but also needed a thorough cleaning and maintenance. So I decided to spend some extra time restoring it.

I've finished up the stand by sandblasting the pieces, powder coating them, and getting new feet. There was a coat of red oxide primer and then three coats of paint on most parts. The last coat was just slopped over everything - including badges and labels.

Looks Like an Arbor Press Stand? The restoration came out great.

Thank you! Not quite. I hope to have more parts ready to powder coat by the weekend. Stay tuned! :)

I made another step forward on the equipment restoration. I had to mask off the machined portions of the next piece for sandblasting and then masked off with high temperature tape to powdercoat the piece.

Time for new tires means time for new wheels.
The new wheels are Enkei wheels that were sold new on 3rd gen 4runners at select southeast US dealerships.
Tires are Milestar Patagonia ATs 265/70r16

Does anyone happen to have the measurements for a 60-series split case handy? Mostly concerned with the length (front to rear) but the width might come into play too… just curious if it’s appreciably “bigger” than a FJ40 4-speed case, and by how much…

I have a split case - can measure tomorrow - you want total length from trans to driveshaft mount?

awesome - if you could I’d appreciate it! actually probably just need from the front of the case (trans mount face) to the back of the case itself (no drive flange).

I’ll get what I can - I have a split case behind a custom NP203 doubler with a one off adapter. I can also get width.

Yeah I’m mostly curious as to how it compares size wise to a stock 4-speed case… it’s a tight space between the frame passenger frame rail and the torque tube…
