Blaming/thanking relic run for giving me the 60 bug after seeing moonshine and cruiser Matt's epic and super capable builds.
1989 somewhere around 300k but no dash so unconfirmed. Long term project hoping to put an LS and spring over axle but who knows!! Super pumped. Little to no rust on the frame and only some spots on the body worst being the floor pan in the foot areas in the front. Shoutout to my neighbor who helped me with his truck and trailer. Real hero.

Dibs on those wheels

Woah now! I did get a set of OEM with the truck as well so we'll see what happens down the line. I gotta figure out the offset and which will be best for larger tires/lift.

PSA for those who may not know. Ballenger Motorsports in Mechanicsville stocks a ton of connectors and they are great to work with. Been fighting broken connectors the past couple of days. Had to switch over wiring harnesses and the one that came w the engine didn't work w one transmission connector.

Well.....didn't get very far, axles are out ect. But that's about it, had delays today. Wife rolled in with her MDX puking oil and dryer needed some maintenance. So if your free tomorrow I'll be going back together. All are welcome.
Bummer! You figure out the MDX oil issue?

Did even look at it yet. Due to upcoming time restraints, having it towed and paying someone to fix it.
Makes sense. More time for cruisers ;)

man that definitely is a bummer. having to work most of the weekend I am not able to get over there and heckle...

Need to get opinions on possible solutions. RCV axle is made to fit earlier and later model 80 series. The issue is on earlier model like mine it's a bit long and dust cap does not fit. I've seen two solutions. 1st solutions is a trail gear dust cap that is deeper. I have the trail gear cap it is still not deep enough even with the zerk fitting removed. The second solution I know of is cutting the rcv axle at the outer snap ring groove. I'm hesitant because it just seems wrong to take a cutting wheel to a new axle. Thoughts? Solutions I haven't found yet?

Man that sucks! I can’t offer you any advice but I know I need to rebuild my front birfs at some point so interested to see the outcome

Maybe I can borrow your eyes and expertise at some point in the future in exchange for some beers. I'm studying for my Professional Engineering exam today (like passing the bar for lawyers). I would much rather have been there to help you and watch

I could be wrong but looks like the inner spline is proud of the face of the flange

And what is the purpose of the outer groove?

The out groove would be used on 95 to 97 landcruiser.
Oh gotcha. Looks like you gotta cut and bevel. Need that cap to fit snug.

So I was able to find a solution after posting on the 80 series forum. I can install a 95 to 97 drive flange. Those year drive flanges are significantly thicker.

This might be a better solution, more contact area on the splines to make it stronger.
