Well, after reading the for sale forum on my phone and then posting in what I thought was this thread, I came in here to move Chis's post. We both pulled a @Beach80 and posted in the wrong forum, Ward too.....

So here it is again. Replaced the cracked windshield in Lynchburg Lemonade so now Betsy has a clear view. I racked the frame a few years ago in WV and the cracked the new glass putting it in back then and just dealt with it, flopped it at SAS 7 and cracked it some more. Had to tweak it some more today to get it in. It is 99% good now.

New Toyota weatherstrip and a locally cut glass.

Exhaust fixed (another bandaid) and sway bar removed. Will replace w the blue cruiser one now that I realize it is bent!! Hit it on some rock I guess. Definitely wasn't helping my links out. The blue cruiser is becoming more and more useful

Alright, I have a question for the group.

I placed an order for gears for when I install the 8.2 rear end. I originally got 4.88 gears ( still need to ship) and am now thinking I might have gone too big. I want to put 35 on at some point, but till then I will run the 33. Should I stay with the 4.88 or go down to 4.56

Kinda in a similar situation, 4.88s or OEM 4.30s. 4.30 swap goes back to stock on 35s, 4.88 works but kinda high highway rpms, could go 37....

If the 200 was a more dedicated trail rig, 4.88s all day, but since its sometimes a daily and "overland rig" mostly, might just stick to 4.30s

If I could do 4.56 that'd be perfect, but probably way different than the GX

☝️

Step 1 is answer what the GX is for. Wheeling rig and towing your new teardrop trailer, I think 4.88s for better crawling in the rocks and help on hills when towing. Daily driver where comfort and fuel matters more, 4.56

What ratio is stock? That would be the starting point.

I am on 35's with 4:88's and completely happy with it.
I had a 4 cyl 4runner on 33's and 4:88's. It was a blast to drive and still had good fuel economy

Given that you will be towing your trailer to events some times, you want to go larger in tire I think 4:88's would be fine.

The last question is how fast do you plan to drive it? If 65-70 is your goal, then you should be fine with 4:88's. If you want to cruise at 80 mph, then that changes things.

I like to cruise around 70 so I am good with a little higher rpm. You will only be 150-200 rpms more with 4:88 vs 4:56. In the 4runner world most of them do 4:56 and 33's.

The stock 470 gear ratio is 3.73. But I’m going to put the 460 8.2 in and that stock is 3.91

This is always a hard question because you will always get different answers. Everyone's rig and driving style is different. I inputted your gearing into some calculators and I would run 4.56gears, but I don't know where you like to run your truck's RPM's or where it gets the best power. I prefer to run the 80 around 2500rpm's.

70mph with 4.88 - 33's will be at 2504rpm's and 35's at 2361rpm's.
70mph with 4.56 - 33's will be at 2340rpm's and 35's at 2206rpm's.
80mph with 4.88 - 33's you be at 2862rpm's. Which might be a little high but that is your driving style and truck and I don't know when you plan to make the jump to 35's.
Stock gearing with 31's (stockish tire size) puts your truck right at 2038rpm's for reference.

(disclaimer - gearing ratio's pulled randomly off the internet)

read what the colors mean

You also need to factor in rolling resistance, extra weight of tires. and what you are doing with the vehicle. pure rpm numbers are not going to be the only factor. You need to be in the power band of the engine so you are not making the trans downshift all the time on the slightest grade.
