SCT = Small Camper Trailer coming along nicely Would have had the axle in and on wheels but was shipped the incorrect length axle

Well while Rob was thinking why he agreed to do my gears, I tore apart the front axle hubs and found this. I knew the inner seal was toast so wasn’t a real surprise, just a mess. Have a lot of cleaning to do.

I don’t think I posted pics but also deleted the PAIR system and bypassed the EGR valve. New exhaust only had one o2 sensor hole and old cats had two holes pre-cat. Decided to move new o2 sensors to the manifold where PAIR system was tied in and works like a charm. Check engine light is off and hasn’t come back on. Like how high the new single cat, darn near flush with the bottom of the frame.

Curious. Do you expect any horsepower gain or fuel economy after deleted these?

No not really. Any added MPG would be negligible. Biggest reason I deleted the PAIR system was to relocate o2 sensors and the EGR bypass was to eliminate a future failure. Depending where you read, the EGR is a likely culprit to cylinder 6 head gasket failure (additional heat). And after reading my engine codes those "future failures" were a current failure and the reason my CEL was on (PAIR, EGR and o2 codes).

Hudd Expo makes a nice clean solution to bypass the EGR so that's what I used.

What year is your 80 again? I should know but can’t recall. I been running the Hudd Expo EGR delete kit with success for over a year now. When I first got my 80, the #6 cylinder was having issues with the plug/wiring and all the heat generated by the old EGR so I deleted as I refreshed the whole top end.

its a 94 OBD1. Slightly different kit but same results. Glad its installed now, only wish I could get to the back of the head and remove the whole thing.

Finally got the head and turbo off the Surf!
Got the new head ordered.
Going back up to Baltimore next weekend to rebuild the turbo, clean the manifolds, replace as many tubes and hoses as possible.
Then putting the head back on and installing new radiator, water pump, timing/drive belts, ATF cooler, EGR plate.

Good job! Are you going to make it to Relic Run with this? Where do you even get a cyl head from for this?

Id really like to make it to relic run in it, but Im still on the fence due to a lot of other plans in April and not wanting to over extend myself.

Ordered the head from an Aussie, Mr.Cylinderhead. He sells all sorts of head kits for varying manufacturers.

So im taking apart my turbo and the compressor wheel has a solid little chunk out of it that I dont think is factory. Looking at this replacement wheel, what do you guys think? Any balance issues that might come from this? Also they sell a "6x6" fin wheel, anyone think there would be any benefits or draw backs from going with the 6 fin rather than the factory 5 fin?

I would definitely not put the old wheel back in. Also where did the pieces go? Unfortunately can't help you with the fin question.

Looks like it went into the engine and got chewed up in piston #3.

Trailer is coming along nicely First up today was replacing the incorrect spring hanger and replacing it with the right one. My welds are shaping up ok
