What are the cool kids using for 2F Fuel Injection these days?

Why do you say to use the FJ60 distributor? Convert it how?
I have an FJ60 distributor that I could use om my early 2F, but had just planned to get the electronic controlled distributor that comes with the AFI kit, for hopefully plug and play. No good?

Im back to tinkering so i'm doing some reading, so sorry for late input.

I'm not sure, but i think there are some programming differences with the ECU's, tht may be affected by the distributor.

Here's why I say this...

I have the Performance Fuel Injection Systems, ah, system. When first installed with the computer and supplied HEI large cap, it ran fabulous, but, 800 miles from home wheeling, it ate the distributor. I got another one from PFIS, and while looking for new hunting spots on state game lands, it ate that one, so i bought a third from ebay and converted it to 7pin myself, and it ate that too. basically the pickup coils were melting down because the cam gear on my 2f, for some reason, sucks the shaft down more than the allotted play, and unlike a toyota distributor, it merely free floats and is not supported by any bearings. it just heats up, the plastic slowly melts and it bind up. I suspect I'm lucky the cam gear wasn't damaged. I got the truck from Mr Schuck, who did tell me he felt the engine was rebuilt at some point, s methinks the oil pump drive slot is lower than it ought to be.

What does this have to do with the ecu? Well, my solution was to use an external coil, 8 pin module and use the stock distributor for the pickup coil signal. It works great, at first, but it eventually either burns up the plugs or carbon fouls them. There's just no where I can set the timing where its completely happy. I'm not a mechanic, and while gut reaction is "fuel delivery" for such issues, I can't find a fuel delivery issue, but, I do notice looking into the caps, the GM HEI must have a ton more ability to adjust the timing electronically, and the ECU would have no way of knowing that. i'll get code 43's and code 44's. So my theory, which could be completely wrong, is my computer is expecting adjust-ability that doesn't exist, the fuel get burned improperly, the plugs get fouled, the O2 picks up unburned fuel, leans it out, it all goes to hell, I clean or replace the plugs as needed, and it runs well for a short time.

That's my theory as of 6/4/19. :)

Just to clarify some of the earlier posts - the AFI 'converted distributor' (a $295 upgrade, I think), is a 3F-E distributor with all but 6 teeth milled off the reluctor wheel. It simply is a triggering device for the ignition. It fit my '78 FJ40 2F block perfectly and operates as it should. It comes with the correct connector (of course) to plug into the rest of the AFI system. I don't know if the one I got was made in China or was an old OEM Toyota part, but it works like a champ. I was glad to pay the upgrade to gain a more plug-and-play system.
