David that is killer man.. Also, huge junk yard scores! I hope you don't mind, I plan on poaching your idea for the fuse and relay blocks, those are just killer! My plan for the 10mm nuts that break off when removing fenders is cut them off, clean up, and weld in some 12mm nuts to prevent future rusting/breaking..

Thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated. :)
Steal ideas all you want. I've been stealing everybody else's, so figure I'd better donate some back. ;)
I'm 90% sure that the 3-relay block came out of a Toyota Tercel, though I have seen it in a couple other models.

That 12mm nut 'trick' looks like that will be the ticket... every 12mm bolt survived the removal, so I'd feel pretty safe doing that. Thanks for the tip.

Is it just me, or is the wrecking yard just a guy's paradise? You get to hunt, hack, and return with spoils... kinda like a more primal state of being. I find it very fulfilling... :D

JY days are the best. :D

I haven't had a chance to go in the past week or so, so I'm jonesing... might take a trip tomorrow, since I'm looking into a full TBI conversion on the 283. Gotta go find out how much they're gonna charge me for the whole system. Sometimes they have a package deal on stuff, like with the A/C, so I may get lucky and get it all for like a bill and a half (or even less).

Anyway, not much has been happening on the pig, until today that is. :D
I dunno what I dreamed about last night, but today I was in overdrive.

Here's a list:
1. removed cargo windows
2. removed front seat belts (they were rusted in)
3. removed cb from glovebox.
4. removed twin trucker antennas for the cb (no more RC LC).
5. labeled and removed headliner bows
6. Scraped the majority of the insulation cement off the ceiling
7. removed all the P.P.O's wiring from under the hood... cleaned things up considerably.
8. Air chiseled out the old front seat mounts... gotta get it ready for the new front seat brackets.
9. Started treating surface rust with a lap sander in my die grinder... and when realizing that wasn't going to work worth a s***...
10. Went to Harbor Freight and bought a 90-lb. capacity sandblaster.
11. Proceeded to sandblast the crap out of all the surface rust I could find, after I sifted the sand, because I was a dumbass and bought general purpose sand instead of consistent-grade sand.

All I have to say is that sandblasters are the s***... I almost forgot how fun it is to watch everything just vaporize off the surface of the metal. Of course the last blaster I used had an Ingersoll-Rand trailer-compressor attached to it, and you had to wear a blasting suit with tear-off face shield panels so you could see for more than a minute at a time. :D

It does the job great, though... probably the best money I've spent so far. I nailed more rust today than in all the previous days combined. I'll get some pix tomorrow, since it was dark by the time I was done.

I like productive days. Makes me feel like it might be on the road someday. :D

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also sanded and painted the grill, headlight rings and fender pseudo-grills the other day. They're just waiting on a coat of black to be done. I went with Dupli-color engine paint that's got a ceramic component to it... should be interesting to see how it turns out.

Well, here's a quick photo of what I've been doing lately.

The oxidized paint is coming off really easy, but the stuff that hasn't been exposed to the elements is taking a bit longer.

Plus the rust scale is 1/8" deep in some spots, which of course are probably going to be replaced.

Not much else going on... probably have another couple weeks of sandblasting to go at the rate I'm going. :D

One other thing I'm considering, is casting the Landcruiser emblems in Aluminum. I've been reading up on sand casting, and have a plentiful supply of aluminum cans.

my GF's old man is a moulder/former by trade, he does a bit of aluminum casting, and i was chatting to him the other week about a job he was doing and he said that aluminium cans are no good for casting as they are pure aluminum and have the wrong properties for casting.... apparently they need magnesium/silic/and a few other metals to make the right alloy for casting?? just my .02

(especially concidering you have probly long forgotten about this :P but im only just reading this now, and im at work bored doing nightshift hehe could go find some work to do..... nah)

think he abandoned the project and his father was selling it.....kinda sad really in reality,.......... seen this many times; it is harder to sell a failed dismanteled restoration project than a "Nonrunner" that is intact;
