Well got my parts dropped off at the machine shop and they said they should be able to handle everything. Spent a lot of time today scratching my head and still doing research. It looks as though my H bellhousing won’t work with the 2h and the starter. So trying to figure all that out. @ceylonfj40nut and @duncanrm in the diesel section have been a huge help!

Loaded and dropped off at the frame shop today. Should be done tomorrow or Friday.

Wow.. that tub looks clean from a distance. They sell for huge dollars in Australia now.

So after much consideration looks as though I might be going all 2H bellhousing flywheel and possibly different transmission, cross member. A lot more work. However, I just got off the phone with my starter shop and we are going to at least look at a possible custom starter for the H bellhousing. We will see.

I am assuming the current transmission is the H41? There's a small chance it may have the necessary 4 bolt holes underneath for the standard HJ46/Early 60 mount.. worth a look, the later HJ45s did ship with the updated transmission with the threaded holes.

They may be trying to talk you into an H55F transmission (5 speed).. this will further complicate your project as you'll have to implement a handbrake on the rear axle when you lose the "transfer case handbrake"

My transmission does not have the mounting holes.

As soon as the 2h starter gets here I’m headed down to my starter shop with both H and 2H starters and showing him my issues with the oil cooler. Might even haul the 2h down there so we both can look it over with the bellhousing and flywheel on. He said they do offer custom applications and slim starters so we will see. He does all my alternators/starters for my machines and diesel trucks. In fact I might end up running an Isuzu alternator to get rid of the external regulator and upgrade to something more newer and readily available. Looks as though all the oil lines and vacuum lines are about the same as the Isuzu diesels I run.

If that doesn’t work I’m going all 2H components with either another 4 speed tranny with mounting holes or going to run a Chevy style v8 cross member off the t case.

I’m sticking to the 4 speed. I have no need for the H55F. I recently did one on a 62 series for a friend and don’t need 5th gear for this triuck. It was great for that truck but no need here.

I just want to exhaust my possibilities with the starter first. I do already have a 2H flywheel coming from Australia and 2h starter on the way just to be ready.

Stay tuned…I’ll be pulling all nighters soon!

Nice.. like you I think the 5 speed upgrade that so many people do is entirely overrated.

In addition to my HJ47 - my half-daily is an HJ60 which has the H55F - I rarely bother with 5th, I even actively avoid it - its a known weak point.

Got the 45 back from the frame shop. This thing has had a hard life. The frame was cracked in 3 places and was way out. In this before picture the driver’s side bumper is way high. I was hoping that just the front bumper or bumper mounts were bent but I started measuring down the frame and some places it was 1/2” or more off from right to left. Tech said it took six jigs to hold everything down. He got cracks welded up and frame straightened. Bumper is even now. But we discovered of course all suspension bushings are shot, rear u bolts are loose but too rusted to tighten (I’ll try and spray those down with lube) the front shock has been cut off at the lower eye and just dangling from the top. Also the front passenger leaf spring rear pin is mangled and not connected properly. I knew the frame would be bad but not that bad. So wasn’t planning on that expense. But now I have a clean straight frame to start on. I feel good about getting it straight but was going to use some of that $ for a new suspension kit. But now it seems I need at least new u bolts shocks and bushings. Doesn’t seem good to just replace just those parts when I should just replace all while I’m in there but budget and time might not allow. Might have to just spray down the u bolts really good and see if they will snug up, replace the shock, and frame pin with one I have here and call it good for the wedding and address it later.

SA trucks get used for more than safe operating conditions. Glad you got the frame straight and fixed. Do the minimum to be safe for the Wedding timeline. Get back to things as time and $ allow.

U Bolts are really a consumable item.. don't hesitate just to cut them off.

I know these “surprises” can be frustrating and completely flip the budget. On the other hand, you are putting some valuable things in the vehicle when your done as well as the labor of love and time..

Somewhere along the line the satisfaction will beaming through…☀️

Parts are starting to roll in. Got my flywheel from Australia. Bellhousing from @ceylonfj40nut, starter and got some stuff painted. Found a 2f shroud in my stash that I think will work. While waiting on parts been doing slow process of cleaning and painting. Still have to clean the transmission and transfer case.

Just a headsup that the bell housing in the image is a "late 60" bell housing.. this one clocks the transmission a little towards the right - your front propeller shaft may have issues - and your tranmission cross member may not be happy with the angle of the transmission.

Photos of the two housings here:

thanks @duncanrm Im going to try a Chevy style mount pictured so hopefully I can fabricate it to work and mount whatever side needed higher or lower as for the front driveshaft maybe I can run a double Cardan shaft if needed?

I have a couple of those propeller mounts if you need one. Don’t need to pay that much for one. Just let me know.
