Does anyone know how I can determine the model number of the Weber carb on my FJ40? All I know is it is a 2 bbl carb and it is a Weber. I am looking for an instructional video on how to properly tune the idle and mixture for the model I have.

On the firewall / back side of the carb is the accelerator linkage. If it has lever to secondaries it is 32/36mm. If it has gears to the secondaries it is 38mm.
Post a pic of that area to confirm.

looks like a 38.
been there a while from the looks of all the gas residue on it.
the only way to properly tune it, is to open it and replace parts, otherwise it's a tune it till you can live with it.

That was quite a few years ago.
I just checked and it looks like Spector off road has a kit for the Weber. Maybe call them and make sure.

Just because of all the knowledge on this site when I see a comment like “...get a set of shaft ball bearing...”, I figure there is a long story why.

So yes Amazon has them, and I ordered a set.

I run 5 shredding trucks, and when I hear that I need spares, I not ask my mechanic why, I just order them.

Thanks....

The short story is that it will prolong your weber

The stock plastic bushing wears out and creates a slight vac leak at times at the shaft .... it also prevents the throttle valve plate from scraping the carb body creating problem with tuning

Higher end webers all have bearings ... cheapo webers do not

I run them in mine... I’ve had the same weber 38 for over 25 years ... DD the entire time

Would this cause vapor lock as the bearing wear out? Recently once my engine gets up to temperature the engine will shut completely down while driving. I have to pull over and open the hood to cool the engine more quickly. After about 15 minutes I can restart and drive again but it does it about 10 minutes later. I'm purely guessing it is vapor lock and I have no idea what is causing the issue. My truck does not run hot at all and I have a metal fuel line. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the carb but I just don't know enough to have a credible opinion.

FJ4013 I’ve seen a number of threads with similar symptoms, often resolved when a poor wiring connection is found.

Search terms (wire down restart) brings up some threads you could read through. Here’s one that got solved:
'82 FJ40 died, now won't start. I'm stumped after checking and searching.

Other search terms you you could try combinations of (cuts dies stall stops) you could also throw (coil ignition) in the mix
